Hi Guys,

Would they ever make a really good game based on a film? I cant really think of any, the new Terminator Salvation game seems like a good example of a bad example. Speaking of the Terminator franchise, why not make a game where you play a terminator sent back in time to track down and kill a character/ list of characters other than Sarah or John Connor? Maybe with a very hard mode where you take on a role similar to Kyle Reese once you have beaten the game.

Another idea I had for this would be the use of the Terminator units from the first 3 films. Terminator-X = Easy with all its onboard weaponry etc, T-1000 = Moderate and then good old T-800? = Arnie, Hard Abit more down to basics. Then the above mentioned very hard mode....

I dont know about you guys but I think this would be a fantastic game, especially if done with an open world such as GTA 4.

What do you think?

Me too but sadly developers dont seem to want to do things that are too different...

Ive given this idea a lot of thought, just wish there was someway of getting one of the "Great I am" Developers to take notice. Bet they get tonnes of great idea's that just get tossed aside.

there is so much scope for a decent terminator game, shame i can't think of an example right now. If it had the same level of story telling/emotion as COD4 then I think it would be on to a winner.

Perhas someone will make a terminator mod for fallout 3 based in the new films universe?

I found the whole future scenario in the latest film & game totally dull. In the game I found shooting endless robots totally unsatisfying. It might've been better suited to a Battlefield-type game as someone else said. Personally I much preferred the original Terminator format of helpless folk generally fleeing in terror from the singlular badass terminator (Arnie) - Much more entertaining. I'm not sure if they could portray the same experience in a game though.

The only film - game that was quite good was riddick, terminator could be very good if it was being made by a better company

Agree with this. Riddick was excellent. Terminator Salvation wasn't a bad game - just not a good one. The option to have played the Terminators would have been good but would have affected the 'World' because you could potentially kill the main characters.

Though a massively open World would be good for the next release.

Spider Man 2 was quality, as was King Kong to be honest.

Would Knights of the Old Republic fall under "a game based on a film?". that was one hell of a game :p

i think they are better now than what they were. It used to just be about hashing together some rubbish game and using the film to sell copies - at least they seem to be putting a bit more effort in these days?

Terminator: Future Shock was pretty good from what i remember - got the setting just right - used to scare the bejesus out of me when you could hear the mechanical sound of a Terminator getting closer but had no idea where it was....

While poorly executed - Enter the Matrix was a great concept - actually made up parts of the story you didnt see in the films and stared the actors of the films in the cut scenes - they had the right idea but it didnt quite deliver on gameplay...

Goldeneye 64 would be the main standout for me.

The old megadrive performers from movies were good but there really aren't that many that are good.

The old Ghostbuster games used to be an absolute blast.

Riddick games are really good.

Ghostbusters game is good too - written by Akroyd and Ramis like the movies, and you can tell...its definitely got the charm...it might well be "very good" but Im only about an hour into it and havent had chance to try the 4 player co-op with my mates but the whole thing is well executed, good controls etc...

Akroyd actually said it should be considered a kind of sequel because it advances the story from the movies...if only more hollywood writers/legends were that interested in the gaming market. :)

I wouldn't call Riddick a game of the movie. It's based in the same film universe, but is a unique story and a unique product.

Which is where I feel developers go wrong, by trying to stick to a films plot line, we all know how its going to end and it leaves very little scope for the imagination.
