hi guys atm im using a single Samsung 250gb drive (SP2504C) i recently spotted one going cheap at £20 would these make a good raid 0? These drives are ancient i know but would i see an improvement in performance if i do a raid config?

Im just thinking it would be a cheap way to gain some performance i have a 1tb WD for storage and plan to play games on these samsungs? they were pretty decent back in the day.

o yeh just in case its needed the single one gets 5.6 on wei am i right in thinking the max for a mech drive is 5.9? so this is decent right if i raid these surely i can hit that?

cheers and let me know what you think!

I wouldn't bother personally, with two of those you'll get worse performance than a single modern 7200rpm disk. And £20 is not cheap for an old and outdated disk like that. Your 1TB disk is likely a lot quicker, than the drive you now have, even if it's 5400rpm.

For £30 you can get a 320GB HD322GJ. Everything will be a lot faster.

Almost any new HHD is likely to be much faster than the 250GB, and they're cheap as chips atm.

As above, the Samsung F4 for <£30 would be a good bet.

whats the best thing to do then i have the 1tb i could always get an ssd for the system and few games etc? What do you think whats best for under £100!

For gaming the drive only affects load times, and the F4 would be LOADS quicker than your current disk. An SSD would be faster still and make your whole system faster.

It depends how many games you're talking about.
I run a 60GB SSD, which is plenty for OS and five large games, or three large games and tons of small ones.

Something like this would be insanely quicker than your current drive, both in OS usage and game loads:
