Hi

I stumbled across this online course at a discounted price here

Are there any people in the know that could tell me if it's worth doing and what jobs, if any, I could apply for after getting the certificate?

I'd look at it from the other perspective. What jobs would you like to enter? Then look at the required training, qualifications, skills and experience needed to go for them.

I saw this earlier and I can't help thinking that for a hundred quid it would be well worth having on your CV if you're working in support or looking to get into it.

Already signed up to do a Windows 7 MCTS and some CompTIA+ courses I found on Groupon otherwise I'd more than likely be doing this already.

What certification do you actually get? Or none and it is just all training materials for CCNA/CCNP.
ICND1 and ICND2 exams (= CCNA) are like £85 each and CCNP is £110 as far as I remember so you need to do one of those to become certified in anything.

A book, GNS3/packet tracer for lab simulations will cost a lot less than £100, depends if you want the training material they give you. I still reckon you would have to buy a book though for those details.

This.

There are loads of certifications that are essentially useless as no employer asks for or considers them.

Never have I seen employers ask for Microsoft certification for example.

I assume you're not suggesting that MS certs are essentially useless?

I've seen numerous support roles saying that candidates should ideally hold MS certs such as the older MCSE or these days MCITP/MCTS. Same goes for server roles or in this case, networking & CCNA.

Really? Check out cwjobs. Nigh on every organisation wanting 2nd or 3rd line support wants Microsoft qualifications. I've never once regretted getting mine as I know they have helped me to get new jobs.

No I'm not saying they're useless, but none of the job areas I am looking in ever ask for these Microsoft certifications that are advertised by Microsoft as being for those particular jobs like C#/.net. Technical support doesn't interest me so I don't know about those jobs. So one needs to be careful and know what is worthwhile doing for their particular job interests.
