Would this CPU fit into my current system?

Hi guys.

I've made a few threads these past few days since joining. I'm mainly looking to upgrade my computer so it runs 2013 games as smooth as butter.

I am currently looking into an upgrade to a 7950 this Friday so that is currently on the cards also.

However I'm also thinking a possible upgrade with the CPU, I just want to know if this is compatible with my current motherboard etc.

Specs are in my sig and this is the CPU I've been looking at.

No it isn't, you need a black socket AM3+ and you have a white AM3 socket. The pins of the 8350 will be slightly fatter and you won't be able to stick it in. If you want to upgrade your CPU you need to switch motherboards.

I had a 7970 with a x4 955 BE and games ran pretty well.

Actually..... The CH IV Formula and Extreme (AM3) and IIRC some MSI GD80 while being AM3 still take AM3+ Bulldozer, it isn't actually a physical difference that prevents their operation, nor is it their chipset.

There's nothing stopping Gigabyte releasing a BIOS to allow Bulldozer support on OP's board, but they haven't, only 3 AM3 boards I'm aware of have support, I'd have to think it's down to AMD forcing it (At least for the majority of the boards that have the power regulation that would support a Bulldozer)

I guess I would be better off sticking with my current build then and just getting a gpu upgrade until a new build
