Would this memory be ok?

Some background info:

Hey, ever since I got my PC I have been having troubles with random computer freezes, but sometimes I could get two freezes in a day, where the computer stays on, just I cannot control the mouse or keyboard and have to do a manual reset. However sometimes I managed to go a month or so without it happening. What was also weird was it happened when I was gaming, but also, most common to happen when the PC was just idle, or I was web browsing...

So anyway, christmas eve, it keeps freezing after a good two weeks of no problems, and then I just randomly start getting loads of blue screens. I have had an idea that It could have just been my hard drive, as before I also used to get a few disk checks on start up, so as I was unable to delete everything off the drive/backup files/format it, I put it in an old pc which just about managed to do this.

When the drive was back in my PC I was still getting freezes and bluescreen errors trying to install windows 7 HP. A mate of mine just suggested I could also do something to make sure it isnt both or one of my memory sticks playing up. So I tried just 1 of the 2 GB memory sticks, and got a blue screen within two hours. Then with the other memory stick, I have been running it for two days now without freezing or blue screening, plus playing games such as CS:S and WoW all on maxed out settings.

My question:

I am not too good with computers, I know a bit here and there, I just hope I will be able to get some advice from anyone here. I am at a stage now where I hope I just need to buy some new memory, as I am not at a stage to upgrade my PC at the moment. My computer specs are:

Intel q9550 @ 2.83 1333fsb 12mb
Asus P5N-T Deluxe
GTX 260 (896 mb)
Corsair XMS2 PC-6400 800 mhz 2x2gb DDR2
850w PSU

^ If you need any more info please ask :D

So with my P5N-T Deluxe mother board, I am not sure, but I believe I can only handle memory at 1066 mhz am I right? I have been looking at Kingston KHX8500D2K2/4G / HyperX 4 GB ( 2 x 2 GB ) DDR2 PC2-8500 1066MHz 240-pin DIMM Dual Channel Computer Memory

I just need to know if it will work, and also, I am never too sure with the ram slots when it comes to memory, I have ALWAYS had PCs built for me in the past either from a shop or a website and I just assume they have done it right.

If you look at the ram slots there are 1 - 2 -3 -4

My original memory had one in the 1st slot, and one in the 3rd slot, I guess this was right, and I should do the same with the new memory I get?

I hope you can understand what I am saying above and can help me out :D

Rob. :)

Hello and welcome to the forums :)

I would remove the competitor link before a mod sees ;)

Looking at the ram the motherboard should be able to use the memory as looking at the specs the can take 1066mhz ram, but you would need to manually setup the speed, timings and voltage in the BIOS.

1ST and 3rd slot sounds correct as you want the memory running in dual channel mode.

Thanks for the warning, changed the link to the part name. Infact iv found them on the OC store - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-039-KS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=817

I guess setting up the speed, timing and voltage in the BIOS will all be explained in a nice little instructions book that I hope comes with the parts :P?
I know how to do this, its just knowing what numbers to put :>

I see from the product page

- Speed: 1066MHz
- Timing: 5-5-5-15
- 2.1 Volts

I guess the best bet will be to try them, and if I have problems, what would be the first thing to try lower?

Hey, got the memory mentioned above now

I have a CPU-z report if it helps. http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1576398

First time iv ever changed something, and at first I just put the new memory in my PC, and it loaded up with no problems at all, and the 4 GB of ram was detected. In bios all settings were on auto, and running CPUz I was getting a DRAM frequency of 400 Mhz, not sure if this number should be the memory speed (1066 mhz)

Anyway, I have been in bios and changed the speed from auto to 1066 mhz, and the timings from 5-5-5-18 to 5-5-5-15 like it says on the website, but when it came to volts I was not sure what to do, I could have chose from numbers like 2.11, 2.12, 2.13, I dont know if I should just go for 2.11, or if it should be higher :S

Excuse my lack of pc knowledge :<

PC seems to be running fine as it is anyway, and since changing speed and timings, DRAM frequency is 533.3 mhz 0.o So far so good, might just leave it, unless it is important for me to set a voltage instead of keeping it on auto.
