Some background info:
Hey, ever since I got my PC I have been having troubles with random computer freezes, but sometimes I could get two freezes in a day, where the computer stays on, just I cannot control the mouse or keyboard and have to do a manual reset. However sometimes I managed to go a month or so without it happening. What was also weird was it happened when I was gaming, but also, most common to happen when the PC was just idle, or I was web browsing...
So anyway, christmas eve, it keeps freezing after a good two weeks of no problems, and then I just randomly start getting loads of blue screens. I have had an idea that It could have just been my hard drive, as before I also used to get a few disk checks on start up, so as I was unable to delete everything off the drive/backup files/format it, I put it in an old pc which just about managed to do this.
When the drive was back in my PC I was still getting freezes and bluescreen errors trying to install windows 7 HP. A mate of mine just suggested I could also do something to make sure it isnt both or one of my memory sticks playing up. So I tried just 1 of the 2 GB memory sticks, and got a blue screen within two hours. Then with the other memory stick, I have been running it for two days now without freezing or blue screening, plus playing games such as CS:S and WoW all on maxed out settings.
My question:
I am not too good with computers, I know a bit here and there, I just hope I will be able to get some advice from anyone here. I am at a stage now where I hope I just need to buy some new memory, as I am not at a stage to upgrade my PC at the moment. My computer specs are:
Intel q9550 @ 2.83 1333fsb 12mb
Asus P5N-T Deluxe
GTX 260 (896 mb)
Corsair XMS2 PC-6400 800 mhz 2x2gb DDR2
850w PSU
^ If you need any more info please ask
So with my P5N-T Deluxe mother board, I am not sure, but I believe I can only handle memory at 1066 mhz am I right? I have been looking at Kingston KHX8500D2K2/4G / HyperX 4 GB ( 2 x 2 GB ) DDR2 PC2-8500 1066MHz 240-pin DIMM Dual Channel Computer Memory
I just need to know if it will work, and also, I am never too sure with the ram slots when it comes to memory, I have ALWAYS had PCs built for me in the past either from a shop or a website and I just assume they have done it right.
If you look at the ram slots there are 1 - 2 -3 -4
My original memory had one in the 1st slot, and one in the 3rd slot, I guess this was right, and I should do the same with the new memory I get?
I hope you can understand what I am saying above and can help me out
