Would this old PC be sellable?

I am upgrading to SandyBridge on 9th January when it's released and have decided to get a complete new machine.

I was wondering if you think someone would be interested in my old rig, whether it is sellable? It's a e6400 running at 2.6GHz, 4Gb DDR2 at 667Mhz, AW9D-Max motherboard, ATI 5770 in a Lian Li case, couple of 80Gb drives in RAID 0. What do you reckon, would someone buy it? Not sure if there would be any interest as the motherboard/ram/cpu combo is a bit aged.

What do you think?

aged or not, I've sold PC's with an old Pentium D processors in them using eBay.
I never really get much for the ones I sell, probably about 1/3 of the price it cost to build the system at the time.

You can always try, people are interested in all kinds of systems, old or new. I guess you can advertise it as a low-end gaming system.

Someone will most likely buy it, but you wouldn't get much for it.

Well it runs BFBC2 at 1920x1200 at min settings at 35fps so not too bad.

What do you reckon then, strip and sell?

As a whole do you think someone would pay £300?

People will certainly buy it if the price is low enough.

However, to get the maximum from it I would strongly suggest selling it off in parts (many people would happily pay for a cheeky s775 CPU upgrade or a bit more DDR2 RAM, but very few will want a complete second-hand PC).

Thanks!! Shall do that then, will pay for a couple of parts on the new rig! =D

Stripping it down means that you don't have to deal with the pc dieing a few weeks later for some reason and them ranting at you and calling you a con-man. Also if the delivery goes bad you loose the whole pc as opposed to 1 component. Another two reasons to strip it down.

:EDIT:

What lian li case is it? I may even be interested my self as I'm looking for a new lian li to my Pc60 plus which is now just too small I feel.

How old is your motherboard pal?
Looks awesome, and if you were to strip it down, I would seriously consider buying it!

I definitely agree though, you would get more selling individual components, aslong as you strip it down carefully and ensure they all work before packaging.

I'd be interested in the RAM if the price was low enough for me :)

...incidentally, how would my 2GB compare to that 4GB as mine runs faster? or wouldn't I notice the speed difference with the extra capacity?

Usually you find the increase in RAM size will make the system more responsive when multitasking. I would expect this is more noticeable going from 2 to 4Gb than a small increase in RAM clock.

Hi there buddy. Yes the mobocracy has been great. Got it in 2007, went through a couple of other 775s until I found this one.
Has served me well, got some spare cash hence upgrading all the system, but it has been great. Particularly happy with the onboard audio!

LOL iPhone spell check mobo for mobocracy. Classic.

You can't sell your parts through this thread. While I asked out of curioucity, if everyone asks it will get locked very quickly. You have to wait to be able to use the members market to do that and that requires something like 3 months and 250 posts or 6 months at 150 posts. I forget, its in a FAQ somewhere.

It's a PCA17, I upgraded a while back. I'm very happy with it, but would like a complete new system to build from scratch.

Quite a nice case, unfortunately I want something which is deeper than 49cm after breaking a HD trying to fit my 285GTX in. The hard drive case in my case makes it impossible but hadn't relisd it till half way through putting it in and it was unfortunately hopelessly stuck. Though I suspect with the way the hard drives are mounted in that it wouldn't be a problem.

Appreciate that, wasn't selling just answering for general info. Now I know there is potential interest I'll probably sell on fleeBay when I get my new build.

Thanks for the help guys!
