Evening all,

Curious about powerline, would something like this work?

Location 1: 1st Powerline adapter plugged in and cabled to port 4 of my Netgear WPN824 router (connected to 20mb VM cable modem).

Location 2: 2nd Powerline adapter wired to a cheap Netgear 5 port switch with a PS3 / PC connected to it.

Thanks.

Thank you chaps. :)

Considering its sharing one port on my router for 2 devices - how will it assign the ip? Will my PS3 and PC have seperate IPs?

It doesn't care.
It would give out IPs whether there was one device or a hundred attached to that port - what do you think you've got attached to the port with a switch connected directly to it?

I see what you mean, im a bit of a noob I know!

At the moment I have my PC and PS3 connected to router wirelessly to static IPs 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.3 respectively so I can use port forwarding and the like. Could I do this with the above powerline setup?

You can already get get a homeplug turbo (85mbs) adapter that provides 3 ethenet jacks so you may not need a switch or hub at the PC/PS3 end if you get one of those. 85mbps should be good enough for internet and basic streaming and file transfer

2x Plexus Cat5e UTP Patch Cable (Blue) 1m

Im just about to hit order on the following to go with my Netgear WPN824 router. 10m cables are needed to reach both the free plug sockets (this shouldnt cause a problem should it?) at the two locations and the 1m cables are needed at the switch to connect the PS3 and my PC.

Any last minute changes I should make?
