would this work? (organising drives) - I-Ram a raptor raided?

i have a 74gig raptor as a boot drive now, i have another that isnt put in yet.

i am getting an i-ram soon and plan to put 4gig in there.

what i would like is to have windows on the iram - 4 gigs is plenty after removing some junk and not putting games on there.

then put the 2x74gig raptors in a raid-0 as a secondary drive for games etc to load off.

then other drives for storage and ghost images of the i-ram drive in case of a powercut or something.

i know boot times arent that much faster off the i-ram than a raptor, but seek times should be waaaaaaaaay faster so should just feel more responsive i would think/hope

anyone done something like this?

When you say RAID-0 do you mean the striped mirroring RAID 0 +1 (or RAID 10 as some people call it) ?

I think the set-up you describe would make for a great system - with programs / games having to be installed on HDD's, you can't avoid a bottleneck, but at least you're widening the bottleneck if you used RAID 0+1 :)

In addition, if you have 2GB of system RAM, you could maybe create a virtual drive with QSoft RamDisk (enterprise edition) and 1GB as your page file! Not sure if this will work, but I plan to try it.

It may be worth installing certain programs (like AV etc) on the I-RAM so the HDDs are used less for these frequently used programs ?

I'm having great difficulty getting a stable install of XP on the I-RAM  I'm not sure if I trust it enough yet - it doesnt seem reliable!

- Toff.
