Is it possible to put an external hard drive in a laptop?

Just wondering if this is a possibility, and if its particularly easy to do?

I need a hard drive upgrade for my laptop, but also want an external hard drive. If I buy a new hard drive for my laptop, and an external drive then it works out quite expensive.

What if I bought this external hard drive:
Western Digital Passport 120GB USB 2.0 Portable Drive
Took the hard drive out of it, and put it in to my laptop. Then put the hard drive from my laptop into the external drive. Then I would have upgraded laptop, and an external drive for half the cost.

Is this a straight forward process? What could go wrong? Anything else I should be aware of it?

the problem could be opening the WD passport drive without destroying the caddy, you will most likely be better off getting a internal laptop hdd and a caddy then putting your current laptop drive in the caddy and the new hdd in your laptop.
