would this work?

i currently have a Q8300 setup with Evercool HPC-925 Ice Man CPU Cooler. now this does not come with a 1366 bracket, so to move it over to my 1366 system would i get away with using one of these?
also, would it be good enough to keep my i7 920 D0 cool?

Spec:
Heatsink Dimension : 93 x 93 x 98.5 mm
DC Fan Size : 92 x 92 x 25 mm
Base Material : Forging Process
Bearing Type : One Ball
Speed : 3500±10% RPM
Noise Level : <31 dBA
Max Air flow : 52.44 CFM
Rated Voltage : 12 V
Weight : 495 g

titan fenrir seems to be fairly popular, i'd go for that tbh

yeah, its going to be a very tight squeeze as the whether it will fit in my case, but it should do, just.
i have a 120mm fan laying around, so could i screw that to it to make a push pull (think that what it is) system?
if so, what/where do you wire the 2nd fan too?

ah right, so quite an expensive option :(
as i have 2 80mm fans mounted on the rear, if i set it up for the cpu fan to push, would the 2 80mm fans be capable of doing the pull side?
sorry i havent really gone too much into cooling before so not sure my understanding of what i have picked up from other threads is correct.

shame, that would be a good setup (if you had 3xapaches and you had space for another 120mm fan, that would be best).
i think you'll be ok, just don't expect uber omg temps

on stock cooler im hitting 72-73 under load on OCCT, so if i can get that down then i can consider overclocking a little, but to get it down that low i have had to drop the vcore to 1.00.

see how you fair on stock volts (if you go for the setup i've suggested) and see how high you can go without hitting 80oC.

i think 80 is the highest you should go on the hottest core tbh

how would 3 work?
sorry or my ignorance on this whole topic.
problem is i think i only have around the 6" mark for the total height, which rules out pretty much everything.

like i say, if you could mount a 3rd at the back, all 3 would be controlled by pwm, thus the 2 in push/pull would fire a lot of warm air at the rear, and if thats running at the same speed would shift that air out the case more efficiently :)

what case is it btw?

as in 2 on the heatsink and one on the rear of the case?

its a really cheap case, was one kicking around in dads garage from aboiut 7 years ago. selling my tornado case as part of my Q8300 setup,so cant use that, and with the money i have spent on the other components, getting a new case aswell as a cooler would probably not go down too well with the missus.

just buy her a bunch of flowers and keep it hush hush :D

i've just bought a 5870 to go with my 5970 (once it's RMA'd and i've got it back) and a full cover block... my missus isn't finding out about this for buggery! :D

haha if only it was that easy.
although with the setup you suggested i could get the hsf now and add the other stuff at a later date.
but if you are meaning mount a fan on the rear of my case then, no that is not possible it only has holes for 2 80mm fans.

i was being hypothetical. but if you got just one apache on a slightly better cooler and try and scrape together for a bit bigger case, you'll be much more satisfied with your setup :)

hahaha

yes, it would, but if you're thinking of bigger things, why not wait a bit and just go full watercooling if it's that important?

i'm glad i did :)

water cooling seems far tooo complicated and expensive for me. i dont use my pc a lot, but when i do i want it to be the best it can if you know what i mean.
so ideally i want to get something that will allow me to be safe at say 3.6-3.8GHz for not a great deal of money, but the overall height to be as close to the 6" as possible to make sure it fits.

tbh i don't think (even though i've gone all out) 3.6/4 is really gonna make a huge difference (depending what you do)

i'd save personally and get either a new case/cooler, new case/h50 or new case/water

use it mainly for a quick game or two, but mainly its used for video encoding/rendering, hence why i want it to be as quick as possible.
