Hi guys,

I'm looking to upgrade my system, and here's what I've put together so far....

buildxu.jpg

I've already got a 650w CM PSU, 1.5TB HDD (Will get an SSD too I think...). It's going in a CM 690-II case and I have the venom cooler, although I will change to water eventually....

Is there anything you guys would recommend, or better products for the price?

Thanks :)

:Edit: - I should add, I would like to overclock! :)

Id get the Gigabyte board instead of the Asrock

Z68XP-UD3 or UD4

If you are going to change to water you should give some through to your colour scheme if you are going to have a window?

Black and orange is the theme I'm going for  so the Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3P would also fit in nicely with this theme... What makes this board better than the Asrock one?

Thanks for your help!

Build quality on the Gigabyte is better than Asrock, Extreme 4 vs UD4 you will get better overclocks on the Gigabyte. Down side is that you must make sure you get a Revision 1.3 board from Gigabyte (ask OcUK to confirm before buy) to ensure PCI 3.0 and also you dont get a pretty BIOS even though it is infact EFI

To throw another spanner in :D I'd go for a ASUS board over the Asrock or Gigabyte. Gene-Z build quality is lovely, nice BIOS and the support is great. Obviously this is down to personal preference :)

Including a cooler.

If your willing to spend a bit more on RAM to go for the orange and black theme I would recommend the Gigabyte Z68XP-UD4 and pair it up with a set of "Crucial Ballistix Tactical 8GB kit (4GBx2) DDR3 (BLT2CP4G3D1608DT1TX0CEU)".

Manufacturer's link

Can also be bought from other retailers in the UK but obviously can not link to them.

Orange and Black would look sweet :) but I wouldn't compromise on performance over aesthetics. You may find it easier/better to go with another board and find an alternative colour scheme. Red and black looks great with the ROG boards

The Gigabyte is not a bad board though,
Asrock vs Asus.. Asus ofc
Gigabyte vs Asus.. if the Gigabyte looks better, why not

I challenge you to find a bad review of the Gigabyte

My Z68XP-UD3P died and many others have a cold boot bug.

Neither of my asus boards have died on me yet.

Just my personal experiance. :p

yes you must make sure you get a rev 1.3 board. Even through all my overclocking it I have never had to clear BIOS, it just recovers by itself EVERY time. My sabretooth wasnt as good as this at recovering from OC failure

Yep, I'm sure the Gigabyte boards are great.. I just can't help but think Asus are better. It's all personal preference to whichever brand you are most familiar with, so yeah.. this debate could go on forever!

Thanks for the opinions guys.

So everyone seems happy about the i5 and i'm liking the RAM shadow recommended, so it all seems to be different opinions on motherboards. Having to make sure the Gigabyte is 1.3 seems to be a pain, and looks like there aren't too many floating around in the UK....

I'll head over to the motherboard section and check out what everyone else is saying!

Thanks again all!
