Absolutely not. Some may think I am crazy but I don't overclock permanently any way. Sure I have a go when I get a new product but I buy it based on what it can do out of the box, not on what I want it to.

I don't overclock my CPU either so I always buy one that's capable of doing what I want it to as is.

When it gets too old I will just buy another one.

I do overclock my GPU/s when new but only for benchmarking just to see what I can score. Once that is done I simply hit the default button.

My way of making sure my GPU lasts is just to buy a second one for SLI.

Other:

If it was a special edition card aimed at overclockers with a massive premium price, then yes.

If it is a standard non-premium card then no.

I'm considering it.. I just figure if I feel a bit iffy about it now.. I might as well sort it out instead of settling for it and feeling bad about it.

I didn't consider this when I got it and i've already used the free Assassins Creed III code.. :| How does that work out when DSR'ing? I'd assume most people wouldn't use such an item till they knew they were keeping the product!

I'm a fool!

Read this (it's what I received when returning a graphics card under the DSR):

Please bear in mind as the vouchers are part of the item, if they have been used or are not returned you will not receive a refund for the item as it is software licensing and exempts the items from return if incomplete and used under DSR.

That would seem to read as meaning you can't return the item under the DSR as you've used, and aren't able to return, part of the item.

If it's just referring to the game code, and you can return the graphics card, then you'll likely have £29.99 deducted from your refund as that's the value attributed to the game.

I'm not sure if you thinks it's OK to DSR or not from your post but I assume you think it's OK depending on the circumstances, if so I agree. If the "advertised specs" state "record-breaking overclocking" and costs £100 premium and it doesn't OC well it is OK to DSR.

For example, if you bought a Matrix Platinum 7970 and it maxed out at 1170 stable in Crysis 2. Given the blurb in the following link "direct from ASUS", would you find a tiny 70 MHz OC acceptable?

http://www.asus.com/ROG/MATRIXHD7970P3GD5/

I can understand it being morally wrong to DSR when it comes to reference designs, or even custom cooled non premium edition cards. IMHO it is not morally wrong when it comes to premium priced special OC edition cards that can't OC for crap.

In that circumstance it's fine because the advertisement was misleading. Although it is subjective to what an incredible overclock, record-breaking overclock is, it doesn't help if it is not quantified.

if it was sold as a good ocer (asus directcu2) and then turns out its voltage locked so u cant then yes.

if you buy a reference and its bad at ocing then no

This.

If you are returning anything other than a LTG or a Matrix because it's a bad OC'er then you are abusing the DSR system and pushing up prices for the rest of us. It's a lottery. If you get a bad clocker just man up and deal with it. We're only talking a 5-10% difference in performance anyway, and big overclocks will reduce lifespan anyway.

wish i had returned my xfx 6870 the thing runs so hot and cant fit a after market cooler
runs stock with crap temps brr cant wait for my new card to arrive if it doesnt overclock i will return it

i highly doubt i would and I'd probably buy a better video card than i actually need as to avoid overclocking that at all
