Hello,
I initially put this in the 'General Hardware' board but i'm fairly sure it's to do with my graphics card so i thought it belonged here (and i haven't been able to fix the problem in the other one! :p )

When i scroll up/down pages with my mouse wheel, i can hear a little squeaking or scratching noise coming from inside the PC. This is the only time the noise is heard (when scrolling).

I tried reinstalling all my drivers in this order, Nforce 3--> Direct X--> Nvidia 93.71 --> x-fi xtreme gamer.

I tested the mouse scroll for squeaking at each stage and it was fine up untill i installed the graphics drivers then the squeaking started again. Does that mean it's the graphics card or the drivers?

I'm not sure if i should send the card back now. The performance of the card is fine as far as i can tell, a 3dmark 2005 of 5320 with no overclocking which i believe is ok.

I'm pretty sure it is the card though, as there is no scroll squeak untill the graphics drivers have been installed. Any ideas on what i should do? It's the gainward 7600gt agp off of this site, anyone else had problems with this card?

Sorry if asking the same (but slightly less vague) question is a no-no but i'm not sure what to do and don't have any really techy mates sadly :(

im not sure if all cards do that but when i scroll i hear a verry quiet loading sound some how.

but yet again its the same loading sound as when your on games. so it might be somthing to do with moving pixels as it loads it or somthing...
which makes the 3d core speed clock enable or somthing

not sure really, but its nothing to worry about i dont think.

mines allways worked fine

I haven't noticed the noise at all when playing games. I haven't been playing that much though, a little Half Life 2 Ep1, and NWN2 and lots and lots of Football Manager! I don't think Football manager is too demanding on the card! :D

Pah! Barricade Schmaricade!

Cheers Rafster,

I'll give that a try after work. I thought it might be something to do with media monkey or something sound related as i think i only get the squeak when scrolling in that. I'm pretty sure i don't get the squeak when i scroll in folders in windows.

I got that squeak on my old 9800Pro but now that I think about it I haven't got it on my 7600GT AGP or 7900GS (both leadtek). Never thought it could be the graphics drivers til now.

I checked and i do only get that squeak when scrolling in media monkey! I scrolled through the 'library' on media player and no squeak then i scrolled through the folder i store my mp3's in and no squeak.

DAMN DIRTY APES! ....or monkeys as the case may be.

Anybody have any ideas?

I have this too sometimes when I'm scrolling down a webpage with my Razer Copperhead to be precise, it's not really that noticeable though.

I suppose :( But i love mediamonkey! I suppose i could just use windows media player but it skps over some of my tracks in the library and it's not as nice. Can you recommend any alternatives?

Tem, while looking for a solution to my problem i came across the suggestion to uncheck the smooth scrolling option in the advanced tab in internet options. It didn't work for me but it sounds like it could do for you.

Well, the problem only occurs occassionaly, thanks for the suggestion :)
Moving on, what mouse do you have? You got the latest drivers etc.?

Just some bog-standard Labtec optical mouse. I don't think i have any drivers installed for it  . I think it just uses what ever drivers windows uses for a usb mouse.
