Would you settle for a 6700xt?

No. But I'm not in a rush. I bought a new PC this year - and the best match would be a 6800 - but my old graphics card is still working, so I'll wait to get a 6800XT at or below msrp either later in the year or next year. Or if nessecary, the year after. Have no interest in paying over the odds for hardware.

I would happily but at £800 it can **** right off.

I do regret not getting one at the forum deal price, alas I waited hoping to get something better. If i’d have known that deals would dry up i’d have gone for one!

My monitor has neither Freesync or Gsync as it’s not really gaming focused so is a non-issue for me. Are you not tempted by Fidelity FSR?

Thats something new I'll need to check.

I already have an Asus 1440p 144hz Gsync monitor though, and if I do get a new one it would be one of those ultra wide 5120x1440 and I would get a G Sync one again.

I've already used my Radeon 550 in my backup build to connect to the Asus monitor, and as its G Sync only I both lose that and 144 hz on AMD (it gets nerfed to 120 hz with regular adaptive sync).

While modern monitors can now have both G Sync and Freesync compatibility, mine doesn't, and I'm not looking to get the ulrtrawide upgrade anytime soon as I'm still stuck on my 1080 Ti and still need a TV first.

If you don't have a gaming setup, or specifically care about G Sync or DLSS then you can pick any card.

Looking at scalped and second hand prices they seem to be falling on local markets

So maybe a sign things are improving

If I could get one for RRP I would instantly purchase it. However I can't justify spending £700-800 on that card. Especially as I don't have a card I can flog to cover the losses. Unless anyone wants to buy my HD 7950 for £400?

One way of looking at it is you are getting 10% less performance of a 2080ti for about 25% less cost. But it isn't three years ago, so no, it's not a good deal at current prices.

The fact you're asking if you should "settle" for the 6700XT sounds like it's not your first choice. Like you're "making do".

Absolutely not. That's lot of money for making do.

That's the way I'm interpretating your use of words. The 6700xt is a nice GPU in my opinion but don't buy it if you'd prefer something else.

I'd like a 3060 so I'm not going to "settle" for something else. I'll wait.

I wouldn't at current prices. If there's a card with good stock in the current market it's a reasonable indicator that it's overpriced.

My advice would be keep trying your hand at 3080 FE / 3070Ti FE.

Here is a review,

Using their benchmark figures the 5700xt cost £4.54 a frame at £400. I saw the Asus Strix go for as low as £344 new and it wasn't hard to get one for below £400 last year before the gpu shortage
At a price of say £750 divided by 114 frames the 6700xt costs around £6.57 a frame.
So instead of a generational improvement in cost per frame the 6700xt is currently around £6.57 compared to last gen £4.54. So IMO the 6700xt is currently not worth anything like its average retail price in the UK. However, if someone is desperate for a card at least its available

Your first sentence is exactly correct. It isn't my first choice or even my second, but I would like a GPU and I would rather it be direct from a retailer too. The reasoning behind the thread is so I can hear what other people are thinking about the fact that these are pretty much the only cards in stock and whether I have missed the fact that the opening of the silicon floodgates is on the horizon.

With respect, the money isn't the issue with buying scalped. I just don't want to contribute to the problem.

Watched this earlier. Definitely food for thought.

I recently bought a new monitor that has both G-Sync and FreeSync. Any card that's an upgrade from my 980Ti would be most welcome though I preferably would like an AMD card this time but I'm not prepared to pay anywhere near-flagship cards prices for a top-end of mid-range product. Once prices do drop to a satisfactory point months/years down the line, I expect I'll upgrade to nothing lower than a 6700XT though I'll still be interested to check out the 6600XT reviews once that hits. Originally I was also considering an RTX3080 though I think that would be a little wasted at 1440p as, like the 3090, it appears to scale better at 4K (and I'm assuming ultrawide resolutions as well). The 360Ti and 3070 are also options but I'd really prefer something with a bit more video memory; the 3060 12GB is a possibility but I don't know if that would be a large enough performance leap since, IIRC, it performs around a 2070.

I did, however, recently purchase a GT1030 as a backup just in case my main card dies. As a lover of old games as much as newer ones, it handles a number of those surprisingly well. I was also a little taken aback by how well it handled design software - including multiple documents being open at once.

I'm gonna 'try' for a 3070ti tomorrow (fat chance me know!) if unsuccessful I'm going to pull the trigger on a 6700xt at the inflated price, hurts me but I simply can't wait any longer for a new GPU my back up 770gtx is really struggling after my old 970 gave up on me a while back which I would have been ok with for another few months until things eased off >.< So yeah I'm gonna have to settle - even though its a massive upgrade from the 970 I was used to

This madness won't last forever.

When the newer series cards are out, new foundries start production and people can't make money anymore from buying graphics cards, the price will normalise.

No, but I think hoping it might be over by next year is optimistic.
