threatened to leave vodafone so they are offering me:

HTC One for free

24 month contract

Unlimited calls

Unlimited texts

4GB Data (not unlimited like Three but I am getting by on 500mb on my galaxy nexus!)

£26/month inc VAT

or £624 over two years (the phone is £500!)

I think it's too good to refuse, though wanted to leave them primarily for high tariff prices and poor signal in my house.

The unknown is 4G rollout, whether 800MHz will give me better signal in my house and how much they will charge existing customers to upgrade to the network.

It's only £124 more, you'd expect that from a contract... If you got it for £500 and topped up 10 a month then you would be paying an extra 240 over the course of 2 years. Seems like a decent enough deal.

Think it's an extra fiver a month to change up to a 4G plan, if you're already on a "Vodafone Red" plan. £26 is a bargain IMO.

I've ordered a black one:D here tomorrow wo0t!

decent upgrade from my galaxy nexus, can't wait

the 4G upgrade for a fiver thing is not set in stone, that may apply only to spotify premium/sports, but here's hoping. by definition I have taken out a 'red' plan so that's cool.

the chap on webchat who offered me the deal said he asked his manager who could not confirm 4G upgrade pricing.

I also got an amazing S4 deal from Vodafone 3 week's ago when I kicked up a right stink. I won't blag on about what I got, but I was so shocked I couldn't say no. Been with Vodafone since 2003. Your deal is still good however. Additional : when Vodafone say they don't do unlimited, it's a lie. They do, but you gotta be lucky or very wealthy.

its sad you have to tell them you are leaving, I genuinely WAS going to though.

I was courteous and polite thoughout explaining I was unhappy with tariffs and signal quality.
I got as far as unlocking my phone and getting my PAC.

The deal is unobtainable online, even through really dodgy looking sites.
I'm pretty broke atm so can't say no to saving £174!

glad you got a deal on your S4, looks a good phone but not for me

It is sad I had to get mad with Vodafone before I got anything good. I was VERY lucky and spoke to an amazing lady who was so nice and helpful she calmed me down and basically gave me what I wanted and then reduced it further because of my previous bad iterations with other advisors. I was going to leave and buy my next phone outright and get a sim only deal. What I ended up with was basically a great sim only deal and free S4. Happy days.

Looks a good deal, but O2 have much better network coverage in general. 24 month contract with pants reception is no use tbf.

I remember reading Vodaphone had the best coverage, in London for me it was amazing and I was alway on h+ with 4mb - 12mb, average was 7mb most of the time.

True its a long shot but it was just so cheeeaaappp

The deal looks good enough, it's just that 2 years is a long time with poor signal. It's not a bad idea to try a few PAYG sims and then see if you have anything better then try for a deal with the best? You do have the option of Sure Signal.

It's an awkward time to lock into 2 years with 4g just round the corner though if you live outside the big cities it's maybe not going to be an option anyway going on the speed it's being rolled out. Where I live Vodafone have poor signal and I'd not sign with them.

argh handset being delivered today and got a bit of buyers remorse, feel snared (thanks reflux) by their crazy deal when I don't know where I stand with the 4g situation.

I just want the HO so badly!

Yes the signal is poor in my house but is useable and usually out and about come to think of it I have rarely been left wanting.

I did ask for my phone to be unlocked at their end with the intention of trialling a three PAYG sim.

I just took the deal as didn't know if they'd offer it to me after August 29th.
My contract ran out yesterday with Voda and thought I only had the upper-hand in retentions being a customer.

However I could have extended the contract another month to see what happened at switch-over.

I think i've been a muppet and should have stuck to my plan, even if that means paying more on a new contract with three, the hassle of PAC exchange and another credit check.

Yeh there is option of suresignal, I just resent having to buy it when signal should not be an issue in the first instance, that and they won't give it to us free despite three long term voda contracts under one roof.

In two minds to not open the handset now (how hard is that gonna be?!) and return the new contract and wait it out.

It is always a good idea to work out the total amount you will be paying over the entire contract period and, if you have the ready cash available, it can often work out even cheaper to pay a bit more 'up front' with a lower monthly payment.

The OP did get manage to get a very good deal though!

Edit: Written before his last post. I was in a similar position to him, but still ended up having to pay £100 for a SureSignal! :(

Check that 3 are any good before signing with them as getting out of their contract won't be easy. I'm on 3 and find them very much good even out in the sticks. Anyway, if you can manage with Vodafone it'll not be a problem. Can't see 4g being very widespread to start with and personally on 3 would not pay more than I'm on now for it. Their 3g is very good and more than good enough for phone use most of the time. Does depend on your area mind.

When you get your phone, call Vodafone and complain of crap signal and tell them you'll be returning the phone unless they can do something about it - then mention you've heard of sure signal and see what they say. Apparently theyre open to haggling with it.
