I have a dentist appointment in a hour. Its a miserable day. Its been raining lightly all day and the roads are possibly very slippy. What would take me 30 minutes to walk, it would take me 3 minutes on my bike.

Theres no way i can get a bus because i would end up further away than i should and nobody's available to take me via car.
I dont really want to walk it or use my pushbike, as i would end up being cold and miserable by the time i get back. If i take my motorbike however just my jeans would be wet and my jacket will keep me very warm and dry! (its a proper biking jacket with padding etc which i use all the time on my bike).

I dont have a powerful bike. Unless you class a 12hp bike to be a performance bike..
Would you do the run on a motorbike?

Just take it steady and you should be fine. I presume you're never ridden in the wet?

Nothing wrong with riding in the wet. Makes you a better biker ;)

Just try to plan ahead a little more than you perhaps normally would when it comes to picking a line and spotting obstacles up ahead. You really don't want to have to apply the breaks too hard in the wet.

Other than that think smooth. Smooth acceleration, smooth cornering etc :)

^^
Keep off the back brake? I use the rear one more in the wet than the front! its more stable, just don't stamp on it.

Real bikers ride in all weathers, just look at some of Flukester ZX10 in the snow :p

As said just do everything the same just smoother :) riding in the rain improves your riding so much, it make you more vigilant, always looking out for things on the road, thinking ahead about stopping distances junctions etc etc...

Yes.

Ride smooth in terms starting/stopping inertia and cornering. Leave an even larger gap between you and the car in front.

don't do it, it will dissolve

Keep off the back brake? .

I've had two near misses with the rear brake in the wet - once having to anchor on hard after someone pulled out and I went skidding down the road, and secondly when there's been crap on the road. I'll use it at low speeds for balance, but I wont use it to stop the bike. :)

Just been out and back. Decided to go a bit earlier in case i couldn't find a place to dump my bike (bike park is usual full).
Nearly had 1 off. I had to stop on a zebra crossing because the car infront of me stopped quickly. It would have been impossible for me to stop before the zebra crossing. when pulling away again i ended up wheel spinning on the white paint and nearly lost the rear end. Having knobbly tyres doesn't help.

My instructor said to use a bit more rear brake in the wet because its less painful than locking up your front and falling face first. My dad says differently and hes been riding on the road since he was 10....hes 50.

Don't see why not? Just take it easy as your tyres won't warm up and gear up.

It's the 3 min journeys in no gear that is stupid...

I have Supercorsa BSB tyres and I avoid wet roads like the plague with them on, but they are fine. So unless you are running anything as slick as these then get on it.
