I recently placed an order for some components from a competitor of OCUK (sorry...) and paid by Paypal as I had funds sitting there from a few previous sales.

To cut a long story short I had to phone them and cancel the order. The girl was helpful but clearly new to to the job. A few minutes later she confirmed the order was cancelled and I'd been refunded.

I've just got back from lunch and decided to check my Paypal account. To my surprise not only had she/they "refunded" me but they had also made a "payment" for the same amount meaning my PP account is twice as well off as before.

There lies the dilemma. A, Do you do the right thing and notify them? B, Do you do nothing and see if anything happens in the next week or so? C, Do you spend it asap?

I'm siding with plan B at the moment but I wanted to hear what you would do?

Do the right thing and notify them, these things have a habit of coming back and biting you on the ass tbqh.

Can you cover the amount if they do claim it back?

If you can then keep it and if they do notice your not going to be hit to hard.

in short: Keep it :p

Definetely let them know

I'm a firm believer in karma and aside from that, it's very dishonest and no better than shoplifting in my book

I think I'm going to leave the funds in my PP account for a few days simply in case it gets automatically returned. If it doesn't I guess my conscience will get the better of me and I'll probably end up calling them. You'd like to think they would appreciative of my honesty and possibly offer me a little something but I can but hope.

Edit - The amount is £150.

Taking money from a company is not a victimless crime, the business could be struggling and even that small amount let's assume £80 would pay an employees wages for half a week

I wouldn't do anything in the hope I'd profit, but I'm a firm believer in karma so I'd steel myself for some bad luck in the near future.

A thank you should be sufficient

Ask yourself, are you honest? If so, return it. If you can look yourself in the eye (with the aid of a mirror, of course...) and know you're dishonest without that bothering you, then keep it.

Myself, I'd return it. :)

If it's Paypal surely they can pretty much just take it back from your account at will, seeing as they have effectively made a payment?

In which case, if you spend it, then they claim it back, you'll have -£150 in your account and PayPal will be chasing you for it...
