Would you...

Over 26 miles yes. But how fast could you run one mile? :) A lot faster obviously.

He said he can walk at 6mph.

Just for the record the world record for 20km works out at 6.44 mins/mile.
If he can walk at 6 mph then we have a budding world champ in our mist.

For 20km!

Anyone can walk ONE MILE at 6mph, me, you, anyone who isn't disabled can.

That is a 10 minute mile - absolutely no chance on this earth unless you look like a complete jerk walking down the street and you don't turn it into a run.

This is the first search on google -
Average walking pace/speed.

Walking at 3mph
That is taking 20 minutes to walk a mile.
This is commonly known as the average walking pace for women
For men it is slightly faster - 3.5 mph.
If you see an instruction telling you to walk briskly - then it means - walk at three miles an hour.
Find more info on walking at walking briskly. Everyone is different so you may find your walking briskly pace/speed is a little slower or faster than this.

Its unbelievable how many people think distances aren't as far as they really are and they think they walk faster and I used to be one of them before I did marathon training.

A mile is just a mile... and it should be self-evident that you can sustain a high speed over a short distance compared to the speed you could maintain over a longer distance.

But not double the speed.

Okay, keep believing you can walk at 6 mph.
Okay :D

I agree it is on the high side but seeing as google tells me people can walk at 11mph (albeit looking like a spastic) then I'll believe it is feasible. Being tall and fit I can walk fast when I need to.

(driving tends to be more relaxing though :p)

yup, and i have done. also cos i know that they would do the same for me at the drop of a hat :)

its nice to be loved!

About 4 years ago I had a lad who is 6ft 6" (1ft taller than me) who used to do a 6.5 mile run with me. I told him he could come as long as he went at my pace which is 6 mph or 10 minute miling. Every now and then he would break into a walk and keep with me for about 100 yards but he wouldn't be able to maintain it even though he was quite fit. Its also important to know that he was walking normal but fast and olympic walking is nothing like normal walking.

I've been woken up at nearly 2am, buy a friend on a night out that he didnt tell me about and driven to pick them up

i was ****** but only at being woken up.. knew me well enough to know i wouldnt have gone where they were going anyway and he did offer to buy me takeaway.. what can i say FOOD man. gets me every time :p

Don't talk rubbish.
I've ran 8 marathons and countless half marathons and my running pace is 10 minute miling over that distance.
If you've got a walking pace of 6 mph I would get in touch with the Olympic Committee.

I've done the mile and a half (measured, not just guessing) from my house to uni in 14m38s (i timed it because i was interested) so I don't see why a mile in 10 minutes is anything unfeasible?

6.5 miles is a long way to walk for someone not accustomed to walking that far though, especially at a brisk pace. And to maintain even 4mph for a whole mile you would have to be properly fit. Yeah I know olympic walking is totally different hence my 'spastic' comment ;)

Not a chance. I wouldn't risk walking alone at night, and I definately wouldn't help someone who expected me to do so. I live with my boyfriend, and if he was to go out drinking without thinking about how to get home, it's entirely his fault for being such an idiot. However, he's not that stupid, and if he were to go out without me when he couldn't get a bus/taxi home (again, not stupid enough to spend his bus/taxi money on more drink), he would ask me in advance if I would pick him up in the car.

If a friend expected me to come and get them, when they obviously hadn't thought about anything while sober, then I'd begin to wonder whether they were using me.

I walk a lot faster than the average person, because I see travelling as a waste of my time, but I'm not sure I could walk a mile in ten minutes. I remember hearing as a child that most adult men walk a mile in about twenty minutes, so I reckon I probably do it in about fifteen.

That's running. Yhack was saying he walks a mile in ten minutes, which is bull unless he's doing spacky competition walking stuff. Which he's not.

I walk exactly 3.1 miles everyday, it takes between 40-45 mins. I would describe it as a "brisk" walk.

And no, I wouldn't get out of bed at 3am to pick up a drunk person up unless they actually needed help. I say "pick up" because there is no way on earth I would walk through a city centre in the UK at that time on my own.

Just I did last night and I was wondering whether most people would or if i'm just a soft touch :p

Hell no. It's his fault for getting in such a state and not making sufficient plans to get home beforehand. He can suffer the consequences for being such an idiot.

I wouldn't walk and collect them but I'd drive without a seconds thought - had to do that many a time and often a lot more than just a mile or two away!
