a Celeron 466 PC run XP ok? or would it severely struggle? thinking of building a PC for next year for my nieces. it's one i already have and it's working. i was just thinking if i put a few school based aps on it and left it at that they'd like it.

It would struggle. I think the min for XP was 300mhz, but it'll probably take an age to start unless you use something like nlite to cut out everything nonessential. Even then you could run into problems with some progs.

Win 98 or linux out of the question?

it'd be like having a mini tow a jumbo jet. Yes it'll move, but it's not exactly best suited for the job.

It would be slow but manageable if had a decent amount of ram and the HD wasn't too old/slow.

I ran it on a 800mhz pentium 3 with 128mb RAM years ago and it worked ok..
