Wounded Iraqi gets £2Million...

Have you ever read about the conditions people lived/worked in during the Victorian times or how they treated people in their empire building? Sane?

We did have morals, but only a little better than any of the most evil empire builders ever. We can be metioned for the first,
Concentration camps, SA Boar War, they were not the first camps of the type but the way they were setup and run and the term (concentration camp) is British.

 So....? It's not like we deport everyone who get money in a civil suit is it?

I think you missed my point, you were arguing that the pay out was right because of the amount it will cost him to live because of his condition, I didn’t even hint at deporting him all I was trying to point out was that 2 million might be a bit excessive considering the amount of care he will be already getting of the nhs, maybe about half of that would have been more suited.

People in this country would've got that anyway....so if he didn't live in this country, it might be argue that he will need MORE help as back home he'll need private care thus more compensation is needed for his treatments?

When our lads fighting there get a max of £285,000.

Yes it's a shame the young Iraqi got paralysed, but it's a war-zone and **** happens. Nevermind, come over and sue us...

UK's gone stark raving mad.

You realize it's the army's job to get in harm's way so the rest of us don't, yet you get irate when our troops get shot?

There's a world of difference between an innocent boy getting shot accidently, and a soldier fighting fully knowing the risks.

As long as it doesn't set a precedent, which we are assured of, then I don't see this as a problem. It's a horrid accident which did happen in a complete lack of luck situation, it wasn't even a NG so it really is just an accident. However the poor bugger being paralysed deserves the money. Comparing it to the compensation our soldiers get isn't fair, our soldiers are professional soldiers and are in the understanding that their job is hazardous, this chap was minding his own business and was a civilian.

I personally say, good call.

Its not like a lump sum, its calculated to cover needs over a number of years for something like an average life expectancy. Over a life paying for care and transport, specialised items, hoist for bath, wheelchair and so many other things you can't imagine needing along with living costs and even private medical treatment. 2 million is not unfair or over the top.

2 mil is nothing really, seriously that's what, 40-50 years worth of salary at an average salary here? It's a lifetime of work and so on, something this chap will never be able to achieved. Furthermore he'll need special equipment, wheelchairs, phsyio, etc... This is to cover this chaps life - his whole life. He can't walk anymore, he might not be able to do any work, his quality of life will be severely restricted, and for all we know he might be in pain or have complications that lead to more serious thing. His life has been turned upside down not only by a war that shouldn't be taking place, but by an accident and just because he was in the path of a stray bullet - it sucks, it's unfair and he deserves to be looked after.

2 million is plenty when you can live off the interest alone.
