WOW bandwidth

chances are he's using less bandwidth playing the game than is used browsing normal sites for the same period of time, as the amount of data that needs to be moved during most MMORPG's is minimal unless you are entering a new area (when it needs to update totally).

Thanks for the responses guys, I was just curious to the bandwidth consumed by the game but it seems it takes up very little.

The average bandwidth using is probably quite low - most games will use under 10k/sec average. HOWEVER, peak usage can spike quite high for short periods when there is a lot of action. For example FPS games can use as much as 25k/sec during big fights.

I'd say a 10hr sesh should only set you back a couple hundred meg at the most, and more likely around 100.

100MB isn't that much though

100MB in 10hours
10MB in 1Hour (or 10240KB in 60 minutes)
170KB in 1 minute (or 170 KB in 60 seconds)
Less than 3 KB/s which is hardly a lot.

A lot of people have mentioned 1.5KB/s down 0.5KB/s up (2KB/s total) which won't be far off 100MB, especially if he's raiding a lot in large groups where there may well be more action.

actually the bandwidth barely differers in raids or just walking around. still the same amount of info going in/out for the most part.

I thought my reply was reasonably consistent with the others in the thread actually, at least in the same ballpark :)

As someone has kindly pointed out, 10meg/hr equates to under 3k/sec.
