WoW or LOTR

I've played WoW since release and have recently cancelled and started playing LOTRO. Although LOTRO is nice visually, the gameplay and atmosphere just hasn't grabbed me like WoW did. I also have a major dislike of the non-scaling interface which when playing at 1920x1200 is tiny and very easy to mis-click. Since the June update I've logged only about 2hrs play, so today I have decided to cancel my account and possibly go back to WoW. Fresh server, fresh start.

I may give LOTRO another go in time when it has matured slightly and some of the earlier problems have been resolved. Don't get me wrong it's a very polished game, it's just that I'm too used to the way in which WoW looked/played.

My thinking now is that a short continuation of my WoW subscription maybe enough to last me until Warhammer Online comes out (beta testing dependant).

Even though I have my problems with LOTRO which I've tried to battle through unsuccessfully, you should play both games and make your own decision on which one to stick with. You're lucky enough not to have played either of them, which should also mean you won't be expecting something like I was which then wasn't delivered in the case of LOTRO.

Either way, enjoy the game you choose and make sure it doesn't suck you in too much. Remember to try and maintain a social life outside of the game too ;)

I played WoW from beta, then kinda stopped about 3 months ago. I started on LOTRO and for the first 10 levels was mad about it. then i went back to WoW :/ Dunno why. LOTRO is pretty, but pretty same same to WoW. I figured if theyre so similar, i might aswell play with my old friends.

It may sound shallow, but I'd try LOTRO first, simply because it will look stunning on the PC you have and make it feel a lot more immersive. If you had a low powered PC I'd have said WoW.

They are both very similar in terms of gameplay, but LOTRO seems to lack a bit of the 'hook' that WoW has. There again I started WoW 2½ years ago - the situation might be different if I'd had access to LOTRO first.

Im gunna try lord of the rings first, and see how it goes from there. If i get bored then ill try world of warcraft ! Thanks for the advice lads.

If you've not played an MMORPG before, don't expect to know everything that's going on immediately - both games are excellent for beginners to the genre but there's still a lot to learn. Make sure you read quest logs carefully - it'll help you a lot.

Played WoW since release on and off, mostly on. I've just cancelled my subscription to play LOTRO until WAR is out.

Reason for this is, i'm bored of WoW and its content, seen it all before, don't really want to carry on, PvP added a nice spice to the flavour for a while, but that didn't last.

Now as for LOTRO, right now i'm enjoying it as i'm playing with a bunch of friends and its fun. However, it is basically the same game, packaged in a different way with different skills and a different universe, the over-all game mechanics are very similar though.

At heart, i'm a PvPer, WoW's PvP just didn't cut it long term for me, and i've just done all the PvE before, so its getting long in the tooth. Lotro is new, and i'm enjoying the PvE, purely as its a different game, its PvP looks to be even worse than WoW's though, so I doubt the end game is there. But I shall just enjoy levelling up and playing with my friends until WAR is here to fulfill my PvP (RvR) bloodlust. :)

My suggestion to you is this:

If you want a game to muck around in for a good few months, playing non-hardcore, either game will do really, my personal preference obviously leaning toward LOTRO. Then when its out, hop onto the WAR bandwagon for PvP goodness.

Well ive played warcraft for 2+years now, and i grew very bored of it in the last couple of month.

i bought LOTRO last week and ive been casually playing it. Im in no rush to do anything, but im enjoying it. Its STUNNING, graphically... and gameplay is pretty good too.

The differences between the two arent really great. But WoW can really grab people by the goolies, however looking back on what i spent my time doing, it was pretty mindless stuff

Try both (free trials) and see which you like best. I've tried EVERY mmorpg out there and keep coming back to WoW.

If you've bought both and played neither then I'd say WoW, it's great game for a while and you should be absorbed for a few months depending on your playstyle.

Personally I'm about to go back to DAoC on US servers while waiting for Conan.

Oh and LoTR is garbage but as I like PvP I'm bound to say that ...
