WoW - Recognizing Install

I have a slight issue with my WoW Install - Basically when I recently got my new computer, instead of reinstalling my WoW install I decided to copy my entire installation to an external HDD. I then connected this to my new PC and copied it onto my C drive.

Unfortunately I am concerned that my PC doesn't effectively recognize that WoW is installed so when the expansion comes out it may state along the lines of "Word of Warcraft Not install".

I would like help on how to avoid this issue? The reason I didn't reinstall to my new PC was that I didn't want to have to download all of the WoW patches again (it would take me days) so I'd like a way to ensure my PC recognizes that WoW is installed.

I am running Vista 64-bit at the moment and my install is located where all my programes would normally go.

Any help would be appreciated

i've done exactly the same thing by tranferring to my laptop, all works perfectly :)

You shouldnt have any problems when the new expansion arrives, as most of the files needed to run WotLK are already downloaded through all the recent patches.

WoW doesnt make registry entries and will default to the last wow.exe launched when patching.
I used to have 2 WoW's one for Live and one for Fun Private Server and depending on which i ran last was which one the patches tried to install to

you should always just back up all the patches, though you might have already, depends. In vista it downloads them to the documents folder, in XP it might put them direct in the game folder. Either way you just back up that folder, keep them backed up so if your install ever goes south you install normal WoW then copy all the patches to the right folder, launch the game and it will use patches to get itself up to date.

AS after the big patches I had to reinstall/redownload everything its incredibly frustrating that they simply don't make a full up to date client download available. Lotro has all the patches available at various places but keeps an up to date full client download available so at least if you have to get it again you can do so without multiple patches to install afterwards which can take ages. Or you can just download a backup that will have minimal patching needed to get up to date.

If you do a straight copy paste of the folder you'll usually have to load the launcher exe first as this downloads some "stuff" to your computer Blizzard requires you to have. After that, you're freeee
