so rogue and paladin are good together?

They aren't bad.... if possible though consider getting someone to use a mage

It is amazingly helpful to mage tables and portals while leveling

To be honest though, most classes work well together.The most versatile would obviously be druid and paladin.

Basically can bubble druid, druid can res the paladin if the paladin dies in combat, can heal each other, both can melee, durid can also long range... plus druid can stealth like a rogue. BUT it depends on what you both want.

Best partner for Warlock and Paladin is probably Druid. They're not the most fun to play though, especially for a youngster. A rogue might be more fun for him as they have little to no responsibility in group play unlike a tank/heal class. A mage is in a similar position and has the bonus of the portals and food as mentioned.

Doesn't hurt to try a few of them to level 10 or so. You soon find out what you like playing.

i currently play with either a warlock or paladin - what would you recommend to use as the other player, so i get the best 2 player team i can.

You play a Warlock or a Paladin.

I played, and enjoyed 2v2 Arena (getting the gladiator title) with a Paladin, Hunter combination and found that they play well together. This was on the last expansion pack, my hunter is still sat at level 70 in arena gear.

Warlock, first reaction is a Priest. Might want to give a Druid a look in.

Wierdly enough, another paladin is a good complement to a paladin. When TBC came out and we needed pallys in our Horde guild, 2 of us levelled together and the combination of seals and judgements was brilliant. We absolutely rinsed through the content. Plus with dual specs, you can instantly have the 2 hardest to find parts of a dungeon group - tank and healer.
However, any melee based dps is great with a Paladin, just pick whatever takes the other person's fancy. There's no bad or wrong way to do it, do whatever you enjoy. Hell, me and my mate levelled as two rogues initally - made contested zones very fun
