WOW STARTER

Hey was about to start a very similar thread to this so ill just add to this.
Im looking to have a go at WoW as im getting a bit bored of the same old lag on halo3.
I played guild wars from the day it came out for about 5 months hardcore (averaged 9 hours a day everyday for 5 months.lol) really enjoyed the story and pve but then once i discovered pvp that was all i played. my guild was even ranked number 1 in the world for a couple of weeks. but i quit when they said you had to be over 18 for the world championships as i was just 17 at the time :[
So that leads me to a dilemma when trying to pick a character for wow, i dont think i want to join a pvp server as i dont want to be randomly killed by some high level guy after watching south park, lol so i reckon ill start on pve until i understand the game mechanics and character traits a lot more.
I played monk in pvp for guild wars as i really enjoy the fact that your in charge of whether you live or die and effectively whether you win or lose, as i enjoy high pressure situations. But for WoW how easy is it to level a priest? as playing through guild wars as a monk took forever on my own due to doing no damage.
Also i dont think ill like the fact that i have to walk everywhere, especially back to my body after i die, rather than warping like gw so would a shaman who can resurrect himself work for me? or a mage who can transport to major cities? is the extra transportation really useful?
As a healing priest would it be easy to find a party who can actually kill things and help on quests? as in gw the main problem of partying up was that 75% of players didnt have a clue what they were doing.

Therefore what do you wow veterans reckon will be the most fun to start with? bearing in mind i prefer being long range and casting rather than being up close and personal.

cheers

For a priest you'd have to spec in shadow (damage) until you hit 60/70 as it's very hard to level as a healing (holy) priest.

The self rez and portal of a mage are not that useful, as in it wouldn't be comparable to GW travel.

As for recommendations mine would be - Druid, Hunter, Mage, Warlock

I wouldn't worry too much abount travelling, it's not a problem really, you never need to move too far and almost every class has some way of speeding this up, and for people like you they have now lowered the minimum level for a mount so you can get places faster & earlier.

Don't pick your class based on leveling speed, as if you did this you'd pick a hunter and would probably be dissapointed at higher levels. Each to their own though, from my experience the most fun characters to level are Druid and Warlock because their tactics and abilities change to much as you gain new ones. I also find those two classes the most fun at 70 and in PVP. Saying that though, both of those classes are pretty quick to level.

There are four healers: Druids, Priest, Shamans and Paladins. You shouldn't level any in a healing spec but as a damage spec and respec later. Healing specs and gear doing really matter until later in the game.

Pallies and druids are both melee based while the other two range. All are capable of doing other things, if you get bored of healing. Druids and Pallies can tank. Shamans and Priests DPS. The later what my main is.

One thing you need to aware of, you are joining very late. Groups are going to be hard to find. Most people have the "been there, done that" attitude and are going to rush to the endgame, skipping whole chunks of content along the way.

Dude, its very, very addictive.

At first, you'll play for a hour here and there, but very very soon it gets grip and you find youself playing for 8+ hours a day!

You tend to feel like you would rather quest/raid than go out with your friends, lol, rather grind for that special item for hours on end.

Also, one errand/quest turns in to 5 or 6. and before you know it, its 4am and your thinking WTF am I doing up?

But if you still want to go ahead and sign your life away, then best race from my opinion would be Rogue (very fun, but now servers are overun with them) Mage, Priest (need more priests on some servers), Like Vita said, Warlock/Hunters are good for first time.

Don't get me wrong WoW is a very good game, it is just very addictive.

Agreed. Once you get the end levels with a guild etc, you will play each night to try and kill new bosses, and farming for materials/gold when your not raiding. Stopped playing now as its all I was doing, a lot more time to chill out now.

However, I am looking to play Warhammer when its out, but thats less of a grind apparently!
