WOW STARTER

How long did it take for you to get 70? In Real Life time? Under a month? Use any guides?

I've been playing since the game came out and I don't have anything else above 45. I guess maybe 2-3 months per character, I only focus on one at a time. I didn't use a guide the first time, after that I knew what I was doing. There's no need to rush to 70 if you enjoy questing, I really hate grinding.

On the subject of addiction, one important distinction I think needs to be made. It is possible for someone to really enjoy something, spend a lot of time on it, and neglect other pursuits. But that doesn't necessarily mean they are an addict - they are just focussing time on something they really enjoy.

My personal definition of game addiction is when it starts to become an overriding factor in a person's life, in terms of neglecting responsibilities rather than just swallowing up leisure time. When being deprived of access to the game actually causes distress and a strong desire to start playing again.

Unfortunately it is often quite hard to spot the line betwen the two. I've been in both camps with one game (Quakeworld) but I still don't regret getting addicted. It was worth it.

As a mage, I would roll a lock.

They have very little downtime while leveling, due to how the class works. Much better for pvp and capable of doing much better damage in pve due to how well they scale with gear.

A mage is fun to play but they are one of the weakest classes atm.

Yeah, Arcane Blast spam is pants

WoW is a very mature solid finished product. It can be great fun. It is very easy to get sucked in and spend more time living in the virtual world than you might wish.

I suggest a hunter as a good first class if this is your first serious attempt at an MMO. You need to play till level 20 in any class to get a proper feel for it.

Think carefully about all those early decisions like faction, class, race, name, appearance, etc. You will probably have to live with them for years.

Also think very carefully about the server type you choose, PvP or PvE and Role Play. This choice fundamentally affects your online experience.

I'm addicted :)

Hi i have never played an MMO before but want to play wow i dont know what best class or race would be good for me. i was hoping maybe mage or warlock

anyone help

Hello there.

I'm don't understand why people jump on to the bandwagon and say bad things about WoW, maybe they're just insecure about them selves but what ever.

I've played WoW for over 2 years now, got 3 70's and still love the game.

My main is a mage and he was awesome to level up with, great survivability as frost and good fun.

At 70 there DPS out put is pretty imba aswell, so take a mage !

As for race, play what ever looks good to you, no doubt it'd be alliance though !

Horde for the win !

I've played since last year about this time. Played at 60 for months(got 22,500 honorable kills mainly from 60) but the battlegroup got messed up so we all went on our way to 70. If you meet people and quest with them you will enjoy the game, sitting looking for group for hours is a pain in the arse but grouping with mates for an instance and clearing the place is quite satisfying.

Don't be put off by high level people calling you a low lvl noob as it will happen, got it a lot at 60 even though i could take most things up to lvl 64!

Decide if you want to pvp in the world or if you want an easy lvl then go for a PVE server!

I'm a warrior myself, have a 59 mage and play my mates S2/3 mage quite often. Mage damage is really imba but i like tanking bosses and nuking rogues in Bgs on my warrior.

Races do have small things going for them, taurens with the stamina buff....orcs with stun/fear/charm resists i think and humans with good spirit and perception

Been playing the game since beta off and on. Just had 3 accounts lapse... that tells the story ;) All chars on a PvP server.

70 priest (holy)
70 hunter
70 warlock
70 rogue
61 druid (last char but was getting fed up with it)

Yes I have played it way too much. Normally I take 3-4 month breaks from it, but _always_ end up going back :s Just wish they would update the gfx engine now.

Most fun class was the rog tbh.

I'd roll an undead if I had to restart. Will of The Forsaken is great :(

Undead Rogue or Warlock would be my choice.

I did a Druid which I really didn't enjoy levelling and I don't enjoy levelling that much. The PvP is however very involving indeed.
I'd say druid or shaman if you want an involving class: both are excellent in all aspects (shammy cant tank though).

Warrior is quite a simple one to play and I'm a bit bored of levelling one.
Hunter is fun and straightforward to level and would be a good first choice.

Choose if you want to heal/do masses of damage/melee damage/ranged damage/casting.

Then see what you're left with.

Hunter is the easiest to level in my opinion out of the ones my friends and i have done.

I've got a blood elf rogue, and the racial is actually pretty funky since you get back 10-30 energy from level 1. I'm guessing that you're coming from a pvp perspective though, as I don't pvp at all and barely know where wotf is on my bar!

My druid was my first character and it was painful to level, partly because I knew nothing about stats. I took her from 52-70 a couple of months ago though and I found it really easy to level as feral. In the last week, I've been a tank, a healer and melee dps in different instances which is pretty cool.

I don't think a warrior is a good first class, as they don't do very much damage and if you don't know what you're doing it's easy to die a lot.

I agree that you need to make a decision about what role you prefer in the game. I ditched my druid and rolled a priest because I realised that I wanted to be a healer more than anything else. I have dps alts, but my favourite will always be my holy priest.

ARGH people like you annoy the hell outta me! stop slagging off a game which uve never played, just because some people get addicted doesnt mean everyone will. people get addicted to everything doesnt mean we should warn them off everything also. if he wants to give it a try let him.

as for starting off, i always enjoyed a hunter and rogue to start with, both good fun to play :)

And likewise.
I started on some lame MMO ages ago ( rose online) as it was free in the beta period, luckily it started being payed for and I stopped.
I'll never touch an MMO again, I know shooters and Strategy were addicting, but MMORPG is much much worse, never touch it any more in my life.

Just got back in to WoW myself after 3 years off. I have started a Warlock and im currently just shy of LvL 27. With the new patch im looking forward to my Summon Felsteed.

Yeh, tbh having a mount at level 30 seems about right, once you get mid 20's you have to do a lot more running around and for the "casual" WoW gamer spending 30+ mins running to a place is just too long and really slows down the levelling.

Im enjoying WoW a lot more than i did with my Night Elf Druid 3 years ago and its a lot easier to level, especially with the Horde "Barren Lands".

I wish people would stop trying to put off new players with this 'addiction' stuff. If youre a decent balanced person you wont suddenly end up living in your own feces and raiding 24 hours a day. I spent a hell of a lot of time playing wow (over 400 days /played) but i regret none of it.

Which most gamers aren't really...

Talk to you in 4 or 5 years, I'm willing to bet you WILL regret it by then...

I've been playing MMORPG's for around 9 years now. Quite heavily on occasion. I am doing ok at work, have 3 kids and a wife (who also happens to play) and manage to fit everything in fine.

Those that say you can't are either clueless trolls who haven't played one or people who have but had no self control.
