What is the point of WOW?

Now I'm not bashing the game, or anyone that plays it, I'm genuinely interested.

I've stopped playing it for a little while but I got to level 19 and too often found myself wondering round not really know what to do or what I was going to be doing as I levelled up. Also my girlfriend started a character and within an hour or 2 she was asking me what she had to do and what the objective is.

I don't really know.. :o

I found this too. I got to about level 23 or something, then I thought "whats the point?". I enjoyed it but then I just drifted away from it.

Hmm but you probably knew what the point/objective was but just didn't know the point in reaching the objective? :D

I don't actually know the point or ojective..

same as 99% of mmorpg it's grinding and when that wears off there's nothing left, unless you enjoy killing people with pre programmed moves.

I have never really liked MMORPG's, its so hard to have a good story when everyone you meet is another hero. I like a game world that revolves around you where the actually point is to have fun rather than to keep you subscribing.

Leveling your character to the highest level you can go through grinding or questing depending on your tastes. Once there it's taking part in raids on large dungeons for more gear and rewards for your character or PvP in Battlegrounds.

To get the most out of the game you'll probably have to join a guild at some point so it increases social interaction between players so you can "meet" new people.

Completing thousands of different quests.
Joining a guild.
Going on raids.
Grouping up with people to defeat that boss you can't on your own.
Building up your own character.
Killing the other faction.
Exploring (love doing this, 90% of the time it turns into me dying to mobs that are too hard)
Loads of stuff to do. Not every game has to have 1 particular goal.

well...
theres the grinding... and thats all people see.

There is always story behind the game, WoW does actually have a really good story... most of the main quests follow this. Unfortunatly you really have to play the other warcraft games to get the bigger picture.

I myself stoped playing wow once i hit 63. too much time was needed to devote to the game which i just didn't have. All of my friends kind of went off ahead of me and got to 70 before i got to 62. This does make the game a lot more boring, questing on your own is generally mind numbing.

its a social game no question. personally i do it for the endgame content with friends.

hence my love of EVE
everyone I meet is the enemy!

I found the same thing. I bought the game and played for a month (I got pretty addicted, in fact) but around the third week I was starting to think 'is this it?'. I'd played some PvP on battlegrounds, done 2 dungeons and killed about a zillion monsters, and it felt like that was about it. I was in a guild with some friends-of-friends types, and I joined them on a raid that was pretty fun. But still I was getting the impression that after about level 20 you've experienced everything the game has to offer, and all there is from that point on is different battlegrounds, different dungeons to explore (needing more players together) and endless numbers of critters to kill.

Its fun, but I found it got old quickly. I didnt renew my subscription! ;)

opinions are different though, i found it the same old thing UNTIL high level, theres new stuff to do all over the place now.

i noticed your missing ~40g of repairs between screenshot and kill ;) you must be going through ssc now though? you have these to have fun with:

Hydross
Morogrim
The Lurker Below
Karathress

Also have you got Magtheridon down at all? Hes not so bad since the patch
Our servers 3 months old thus far, we still got a few people with pretty bad gear.
Trying Magtheridon after reset this week I think, we got Doom Lord Kazzak server first this week, cleared Karazhan and Gruul's Lair, we're doing pretty good best on server so far.

Won't be in SSC for a short while yet I think, people still need rep with Cenarion Expedition and such ;)

I personally miss BWL/Naxxramas, best instances to date I think, plus the 40 man cap :(

Ah new servers are so good for progression though, you must get the pick of the gatherables :D (OnT, thats anothing thing, trade in game whilst its not the best its another thing to do, especially for high end content where consumables are needed for now)

You may find mag a bit hard still if your dps isnt high enough, hint though, burn all your blood lusts etc in the first 30 seconds of the fight, the more adds you get down before mag releases the better. If you ever need any advice though email in trust or celebrityguild.com forum

there is no one objective and i dont think you can ever complete every single thing there is to do but i spose the main thing is to get to lvl 70

Was my first time rerolling on a new server wasn't gonna at first took some persuading by some friends before I decided to (Had a 60 Rogue/Warrior with old-instance epics I wanted to play instead), anyway was pretty fun, though atm our BG group is absolutely terrible never any battlegrounds up!

Had a break from my Warlock, got my Warrior to 70 and joined the best guild on that server who had killed Mag, then decided I didn't wanna play it :D
Went back to Warlock and after 3-4 weeks of not playing still was one of the best geared and easily joined best guild on server (+had friends in *** guild and one was an Officer xD)

This!
That's my Warlock atm anyway, should get my ass into gear and get tailoring leveled up for the craftables really, though I've got pretty nice gear, gonna spend my DKP on Voidheart Mantle tomorrow when Gruul's is back and reset, want that 2 set bonus!

Anyway about DPS on Mag, we have pretty good DPS I'd say, I mean Kazzak at least requires it we had around 35 at the time he died though so obviously gonna be a fair bit less for the 25 man raid @ Mag. I read he got a nerf and a buff though, does more melee damage (nearly twice the amount apparently) but his adds have less hp or do less damage, something like that anyway.

Should be interesting to try him, mainly looking forward to Black Temple, oh well SSC first!
