same as 99% of mmorpg it's grinding and when that wears off there's nothing left, unless you enjoy killing people with pre programmed moves.
SWG, if only she had not been hurt so badly by SOE, its end games are high level dungeons, pvp, crafting, oh my dear dear crafting..... I miss that game, but now its not the same :(

Sounds a bit like every FPS on the market, pick up gun, shoot bad guy, pick up bigger gun, shoot bigger bad guy, rinse and repeat. :p

Now I'm not bashing the game, or anyone that plays it, I'm genuinely interested.

I've stopped playing it for a little while but I got to level 19 and too often found myself wondering round not really know what to do or what I was going to be doing as I levelled up. Also my girlfriend started a character and within an hour or 2 she was asking me what she had to do and what the objective is.

I don't really know.. :o

The object is to take over your life !

yes, but theres a final big bad guy to kill, to FINISH a game. :o

i might play through hl2 twice, might even do it once more at some point. but i don't want to kill the same guys, from the same area's over, and over, and over and over and not have a single reason to keep going.

the problem i see it is, there really isn't a main story in WOW, the main story in theory is alliance vs horde, but no matter how much you fight them you can't win. if you can't win, why fight in the first place, its just pointless.

one thing i like about mmorpg's is well, the immense scale, and some interaction with other people. but i've said in another thread, not everyone wants a game just to socialise with other people, i wanted a new game. something that finishes at some point. even with WOW, a single main story line added with all the current quests, but a main story line that finishes and gives you a nice cutscene and feeling of acomplishment. with wow, the amount of characters you can play as, the number of sidequests and possible different main storylines that you could affect/choose as you go out and multiple different endings they could have at least a couple servers that are more RPG's you play offline, with some extra content.

hell, it wouldn't be hard to play it completely offline as a PvE only setup, just tweaks numbers in dungeons mainly, time it takes to level and stuff. the a midway point, actual storyline, finishable but can also play online with other people. if i could finish it in 10 different ways and play it with 10 different characters i could play it 10 times.

What the point of stamp collecting?

At least with a MMORG you can do a lot of chatting whilst collecting the latest "item of uberness".

Some games don't have winners, they are just there to enjoy playing (a bit like England at cricket), or to enjoy the stories told and adventures experienced. Every now and again me and a few mates who played EQ a long time ago still chat and laugh at the experiences we had, I don't do that with Quake, Farcry, any Zelda game, any single player RPG, etc.

It's also a big chat client, I have open invitations to visit people from all over the world if i'm ever in their neck of the woods. I chatted to people of all ages and backgrounds from 7 year old welsh kiddie, to a 70 year old American granny (and countless spotty teenagers).

Basically, you get out of them what you want to put in really.

Oh. I also now have a nasty habit of typing "prolly", instead of "probably" for some reason...

What Mods/Addons do you use to get a hud like that?

Im fairly new to the game and that hud looks perfect for my hunter.
HP bars and stuff like that = ag_unitframes

The action bars = Bongos

Top bar with the info = fubar

That's about all the addons you can see on that pic really.

Exactly,

I am too not knocking those that play WoW.

But i truly do not see the sense in this game or the big hull-a-buloo about it.

just my own thoughts..

The objective is to 'complete' as much of the game as possible and to be the best player, same as any other game. It's a social game as well, yes, but it kinda fails there as 99% of the community are, for lack of a better word, scum.

The final boss of WoW is you, man. The only thing that stands between you and total victory is... your own life. The completion of WoW is like a metaphor for the death of your own soul. The more mobs you kill, the more rep you grind, the more your life disappears. Only when it's all gone, all wasted, will your soul ascend to WoW heaven. Praise be to WoW.

the point of any true mmo is determined by that of the players own targets, does he or she wish to be the "uberestestest" player on the server, do they just want to fill the free time they have, due to not having a social life, or having far too much free time. Or do they want to be a recognisable, rper, pvper, pveer, loot whore, etc

to be the best mage u can be, and be called Imba and cheat at every PvP game, and to come to top kill/dmg meter for the teams. Overall to be the best pvper and own any class with ease ;) that was my objective, of course the pve raids helps loads in achieving that until the stupid burning crusade came and screwed everything thing up for pvp and pve...wow basically sucks now!

Agreed.

MC/BWL/AQ40/Naxx > New crappy 25/10 man instances :o
they suck so bad, 40 men raids were immensely more fun...25 men is like ZG which is pretty rubbish the experiences...plus the Photo shot after is not the same when u get 40 men infront of the damn boss KILL...best

but anyway i was more of a pvper than a pver, due to being a mage and actually quite good at it and having quite good gears. but that stupid PvP system made all noobs have GM weapons and gear completely peed me off. any idiots can activate trinkets and get zerger rage bonus and kill u in 1 hit, oh and hunters with T2+ or equivelent was unkillable unless u are T2/3 firemage...LOL was funny how i used my priest spamming a T3 hunter and him and me single handly defended AV general. that was pretty much cheating

WoW is basically uncompetable. Blizzard will keep adding more stuff faster than most people can do it, and those who can won't get all the kit their guild wants before the next dungeon launches and it all starts again.

I do agree that TBC really messed the game up though. Especially for casual guilds. They never got to do Naxx, because TBC arrived and it was obsolete. Myself, I never even did BWL. And I probably never will.

Its already been said. The point of WOW is to enjoy the lore of the world. Complete in quests and kill many mobs on your way aswell as helping others out .

People have said whats the point in the game when it wont end. Waste of time?

Far from it. Look at one of the best games ever made. Elite/Fronter:Elite 2. Elite (origonal) was completable iirc but Frontier? No way you can complete that. It was and open ended game. You could explore vast solar systems and moons/planets etc. Its the same with WOW.

In WOW you can go back to the earlier areas of the game via a quest. Say your lvl 40 and you have a quest to go speak to someone in your main city which is near your starting point. You can/will bump into some low level people who maybe struggleing with their own quest. They could /w you asking for help. You could always help them out. This is the social aspect of the game you get recognition doing this sort of thing.

Theres more to the game than just grinding and questing.

Ture. I spent weeks racing to lv60-70 not really enjoying it much but obsessed hitting high levels and get decent gear. I finally hit 60 and started to get ready for lv70.

Someone /w me asking for help with a few mobs, and where I usually would ignore this person and continue my ascend to lv70, I decided to help....and boy, did I have fun replaying all the old quests.
I now spent pretty much 50% of my time helping others, and the rest of the time leveling slowly, just enjoying the lore and different areas. I've been through DM, SM, Uldaman, ST and BFD about 30 times the past two weeks just helping people out.

I've not leveled as much as I've hoped I would, but at least I'm looking forward logging on again.
