wow want a scan of some identification

its to make sure im the owner of the account, so they can see full name and address.
anyone had to send a scan of passport or driving license etc to wow?
i need to get an authenticator removed because i got a new iphone so lost the app, i forgot to take it off before i had the phone wiped
Exact same happened to me!
Just sent in the appropriate Photo ID and they took it off within 6 hours.
I took a picture with my iPhone of my passport and drivers license next to each other and sent it in.
Not sure what the issue is, I've heard of this on many occasions and how many hackers are going to be able to realistically fake a copy of your passport or drivers license? Blizzard are obviously not collecting this information to store or it would be something required to signup in the first place they just want to verifiy they arent helping a hacker
If you were 18 trying to enter a nightclub would you have an issue showing a bouncer your photocard driving license?
Thats a little different to sending copies of it over the Internet don't you think? I wouldn't feel comfortable sending such valuable information.
how are hackers going to know all the cd keys i used? and i could easily take a passport and edit the photo and name its a bloody picture so easy to photoshop blizard cant verify every passport is real because
Your worried that your ISP might intercept it and ID theft you? or maybe blizzard themselves?
I listed my flat for sale the other day and had to mail my ID to the estate agents in the post. Heck of a lot less 'secure' since any low paid grub at the post office could have opened it.
Heck when you think about it.. all those household bills that you receive that can be used for ID theft that the post office handle every day OMG OMG *TINFOIL HAT*

ID is there for a reason, to prove who you are, no point keeping it locked in a dark safe 10 floors down in a nuclear bunker, you just have to be responsible about who you show it too
Any I might be wrong about this, but whenever you take out a loan or bank account..etc etc normally the protocol is for them to see and scan the physical documents, no bank would accept a scan of it so I still dont see the issue
If im not wrong here.. the hackers already have the account and have probably taken everything worthwhile so why would they bother for the sake of keeping the account itself, from stories I've read they would be more than happy for you to get the account back.. load it up with goodies and hope you didnt change your password so they can take another shot at you a few weeks later.
Blizzard are only doing this to 'try' and stop people like you who were gullible enough to be hacked from getting hacked again.
i wasnt gullible it was a flash exploit thousands got hit by.
some clever people posted on on the 2 well known wow addon sites that allowed flash content in the comments field.
anyone who went to update one of the few most popular addons ended up with a keylogger beeing put on there pc that was downloaded in the flash signature.
blizard posted warnings on there forums for everyone to update flash to fix the exploit.
blizard did not however have the sense to post a warning on the games login screen and seeing as not everyone visits the forums a lot of us didnt know until it was to late.
we werent gullible we were let down by blizard for not putting a warning where everyone would see it
wen i got hacked i had all my gear back within the hour, so i don't see how removing an authenticator can take any longer. if its not done by dinner i will give them another ring.
