There was something up with WoW and patching in general last night - I'm only a patch or two behind, but it was taking ages to download 250mb, the peer to peer wasn't working, it looked like it was trying to take it all from blizzard direct.

's probably fixed by now.

It's a torrent client and a bad one at that. For a small patch on patch day it's alright, but for anything else you're really better off downloading from a mirror, or extracting the .torrent file and using a real torrent client.

Apart from the incremental patches, is this the only file I need to download after installing the 9 WoW / BC cds?

Yep, it's the "Universal" patch, which takes any WoW client to version 2.4. The smaller ones can be picked up through the Blizz downloader.
