As it was nice yeterday me and the wife decided we would go for a drive yesterday, we have something to collect, so it made an excuse to go out. Where we were gong was Wales, what turned out to be a nice drive out - turned into a nightmare and a matter of minutes.

While going onto a Narow road, I cant remember the extact speed , but Probably doing more than what I should, we turned a slight corner, suddenly lost control straight into a stone wall. Thankfully no injuries only the car.

So the damage is

Front wing (Passenger side) heavy damage
Front bumber - scuffed
The wheel is bent,
also looks like the wheel / suspesion has been forced back into the wheel arch.

Doesnt appear to be any damage to the bottom sills or door.

The not so good part

When the car went into the wall, engine lights came on, engine does not start, when we tried to start it, there was a nasty burning smell coming from somewhere. Ive no idea what this is?

Car is a 206 HDI with just under 70K on 53 plate. Any idea on wither this is fixable or likely to be written off.

Sorry I have no pics yet, I had to leave the car in pitch black was in the middle of nowhere

it should be fixable,
all depends on if the chasis rails are bent (with the impact to the front wing)
I dont know the value of the car,
But the work that it needs to fix it including parts will be about £1000 or their abouts,
So if the cars worth more than £1000 it should be repaired,
But all depends on the chasis if thats bent they wont re jig it just end up writing it off

Most likely yes.

How fast were going to lose control on a slight corner?

road was a singlle carrageway road, i was doing in the region of 40-45, i reacon i was only able to get down 35 at the most when impacting the wall.

it was a completly blind corner, I skidded, back of the car went out, felt like it went back in, then hit the wall just above the wheel arch.

You got a picture now? I'm guessing by whats happened, you'd be better off calling it a 'write off'.

no pics yet I am afriad i was actually stranded. it happened the middle of nowhere, police drove me to the nearest town where i got a train back. car was recovered later on today. I am going to ask them if they can forward me photos but i doubt it. I didnt take any at the time as my mobile had low battery, which i needed to converse.

Then you also have the issue with the engine. turns but wont start. Made an awful sound also.

Book value of the car is probably about £2400-2800

Ha! He'd be lucky. Most places charge about £300 just to spray a bumper. This guy needs:

- Removal of all the old bent stuff
- New front bumper
- New wing
- New wheel
- New tyre
- Probably a couple of new suspension components
- Investigation as to why the engine isn't starting (most likely there is a few things damaged under the bonnet)
- Paint for all the above (where applicable)
- Labour for all of the above
- Possibly a hire car.

I should think £2-2.5k for the entire claim would be easily achievable - it's amazing how quickly the costs start mounting up!

^^^^^^
Agreed to be fair
It depends if he can get bits from a breakers, But thinking about it a insurance garage aint going to no breakers lol.
Sorry for my insolence

Id agree with that. Exactly what I was thinking. needed it confirming.

I dont get a hirr care unless they decide to repair, so I have to wait at least a week without a car. NICE! Luckily I work from home.

Not in an immediate hurry to start shopping for replacement yet

On average how long does an accessor take before they say if its to be written off or not?

Update so far its in storage, as acccident happened between a village, middle of nowhere. I went to a town 20 miles away. I Wasnt able to go back to the car.

They did a recovery yesterday without the keys, I sent the key down, so it should be ready for them today.

Ive basically been told they I cannot get a loan car, unitil they have made there mind up, wither its fixable / or write off.

Sorry to revive the thread. Car has been written off. Spoke to the insurance co two days ago, chap explained its a CAT C.

They have sent me the tax disc back, could get it refunded but there was only 1 month left.

Big question is now is how much they are going to give me?

I paid £3200 last year for the car, it needed new AUX pulley, also Ive done the belts. Mechnically in A1 condition, Cosmetically its average for the age.

I Appreciate that the cars probably depreciated 15-20% in 1 year of use, so thats around the £2500-2600 mark? If I can also prove that I have service histroy for the recent work? Will that also help to increase there offer?

I'd like to come out with £2400, as I have a £200 excess to pay, and I think my reasoning is fairly sound.

To summerize
206 HDI with PSH
1.4 with 65K.
Trim is the style.

According to the Vauxhall valuation tool, assuming your car was 5 door, it gives:

Excellent condition: £1610
Average condition: £1450
Below average condition: £1185

The 3 door is about £100 less on each of those.

Thats obviously trade prices, but i think you'll be very lucky to get £2400.

I think the quatation you have given me is somewhat low! What bothers me this is a Vuaxhall tool, I get the impression this is what I would get if I traded it in at a dealership.

I would seem logical to me that my insurance company need to give me a near enough figure for me to replace the car with equal spec and mileage, so if I get £1500 I am going to be somewhat short by a long shot.

Ive searched prices in 3 places online so far, Pistonheads, autotrader all sell this current model for around £2300-2500. this is with the current mileage mine had (65K), car also had metallic paint, these factors should be adjusted in any valuation.
