Writing a cover letter for Apple Product Design Engineering internship

Do you have any other product designs or a portfolio?

They won't want to see one case design, I would imagine they want to see a lot of your ideas.

So you redesigned the product to be twice the size and ugly (imho).
If you want submit this try the following , use clear acrylic tubing so the tubing is straight and horizontal, that fan looks wonky, tidy up the cabling, it doesnt matter if it works or not.

Make sure you copyright it to the nth degree, even then they;ll probably jut steal the design and say they invented it.

I suggest you buy an older apple product off eBay and take it apart. Their aesthetics are more then skin deep.

I somehow think they are not interested in a Playstation 3 in a bread bin. :D

I personally won't bother at all with a covering letter or photos...
Your a designer you need to show your portfolio...

Send them on VERY high end paper.. a letter set out like a standard letter and in the main text part saying

"
Dear Sir or Madam

I am writting to apple for an design intermship, my portfolio can be view on:
<website>

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,"

And leave it like that...

Then you have show off all your work on the website... keep the best work on the main page, and have sub pages for more details and other projects, and don't forget the "about me" page. This would be far more intreasting that sending a standard letter and photos..

It's the digital age and your applying to one of the most forward thinkings (or that's what they would like to think) in the industry.

Dont forget me when your rich and famous. ;)

Also where are you based? as Apple europe HQ are in Ireland.

and the bored admin staff going through the thousands of applicants goes.."ugh cba" and it goes in the reject pile.

It will be much different from all those thousands of one page covering letters, and will rise interest.

A lot of companies, college and university are expecting applications to have website showing off their portfolio if they are in the design, art, photo and marketing business. rather that carry around a massive portfolio case with designs, photos etc...

When we get applications here, I always run a quick FB, tweeter and google check on the final few to see what they are really like.

get some better photos - not on a (brown) carpet! try and make it look like you understand how to present a product you have designed

link to a nicely presented website in covering letter too

going for an internship at apple is going to be very competitive imo, if you can show them an understanding of their brand/design in your presentation of the letter it can only be a good thing.

Definitely clean up the internals, looks pretty cool up until the last photo when it all just looks very ugly.

As mentioned several times, Apple products are just engineering porn when it comes to how well the internals are designed and put together. So clean and minimal

Just tell them it only cost £200 to make, despite losing few Asians friends during the build you sold it for £2k.

no no no you're doing it wrong... can't you see all the 'cool' posters are pointing out how apple is boring and overpriced, you can't possibly start commenting about their products being well made, well designed etc..
