Wrong Compression fittings?

Hi Guys,

Recently got my order in for a new loop, ive previously used barbs and clamps on a small loop and found no problem, however when checking out one of the fittings with the hose i bought it seems that it doesn't really "compress" the hose enough and seems really easy to just pull free...

I mean from my perspective with very slight force i can simple pull it out when i fully tighten the compression fitting...

Hope someone can point be in the right direction as i thought i'd followed the FAQ's compression compatibility chart properly....

First of all, the host link is the same as the fitting link.

I'm on my second loop, but I didn't use any vast knowledge of fittings, barb sizes, ID/OD etc etc.

All I did was copy and paste the fitting description from the techlabs kit and married that up with the fitting description for the hose description from the hose in the same kit.

Assuming you are using 7/16, you will need this fitting.

The one you posted is 10/16, which is bigger, I think, so what you say makes sense.

I'm new to compression fittings, so someone else more clued up will probably post a better explanation.
 
Hose link is fixed, Primochill Primoflex Advanced Tubing 16/10 - UV Blue <link again for good measure

The hose it self seems fine until you put a bit of angle where it just angles out of the fitting, it also seems to just pop right out of the fitting if pulled on with little force. I've left the fitting on sitting there it seems there must be some compression on the actual outer hose because a faint line is left on the outside of the hose.

It seems tight thought i can still use the same amount of force as when the fitting is tightened to pull hose off I also just managed to put the hose into the fitting with the compression bit already fastened on the bottom part, i wouldn't expect that to happen if it was functioning properly?

Also checked EK-KIT bundle seems the same CSQ fittings 16/10 are partnered with 16/10 hose.

If it was me, and all the fittings did the same, I would contact the vendor or OcUK for rma. Sounds like you could very easily have a leak.

One thing i did notice when i put my loop together last week is that i had sweaty hands and it was difficult to tighten them properly. So i tightened them with rubber gloves out the kitchen.

To be fair they when i did that they went down all the way. You need to have peace of mind though and it doesnt sound like you do yet. By a long shot.
 
Indeed, When i used barbs before i was really confident with the set up because even when using lots of force the hose wouldn't come off before putting clamps on (had to use a stanley knife to get it off the barb after making a mistake), I have another length of this hose coming tomorrow, will see then if the hose is wrong i guess though I'm fairly sure it's correct perhaps when i call they can recommend another fitting or hose type. Just unfortunate i really wanted it fitted this weekend, no time off until 10th now and need the PC throughout.

I tried with gloves but it;s already tightened as far as it will go, even when pulling the hose off it will not tighten any more.

Thanks for the reply if anyone else has any suggestions would welcome them but i believe Michael pretty much summed up my thoughts in the first line of the last post.

If you have used all the same fittings as the kit then I wouldnt go any further dude. Good call in waiting. It does your head in because you want to progress but in the long run it aint worth the stress when your pour the coolant in and a massive puddle appears under your rig
 
Is it possible you've been sent the wrong tubing or fittings by mistake?

I know when I was setting up my loop with compressions, you couldn't get the tube off the barb part without cutting it, let alone once the compression ring was on.
 
Sound to me like you might of received 16/13 by mistake. Try measuring the end of a pipe to see what you get. Normally I have to put my pipe in boiling water and use some pin nose pliers to stretch the end slightly just to get them on.
 
Well, I received another meter of hose about 20 mins ago and had the same issue with it the hose is actually pretty easy to get on compared to what you guys are saying, I spoke to our and cs said although he doesn't we it doesn't sound right he said ordered items are the correct rating but could potentially be mislabelled their side asked me to measure to check ID & OD on fittings and hose(can't atm as I am in work) and suggested I call back Monday if wanted to talk to someone who watercools but could arrange rma for hose
 
EK are a European company so make items in millimetres so the fittings are designed for 10/16mm hose, Primochill are a US company so make items in inches, which means the outer diameter of the hose is actually 15.875mm. I don't know it this would be related to your issue /shrug.
