Really confused as this was a brand new phone from Google direct

Unpacked and setup the phone with no sim in. Once apps installed I inserted my EE sim. No other sim was used.

Anyway when I goto settings and phone number I have some random number in there. Which is odd if the phone was brand new ?

Furthermore I can't change it. Any ideas ?

Hmmmm, With the sim you put in there did it originally have another number and you ported your number to it at sometime?

I ask 'cos a similar thing happened to me with my daughters phone when we transferred the number across - corrected itself within 24 hours though.

I've got the same thing too on my Nexus 5, both with my sim swapped Tesco Sim and also today with my new O2 sim which says "Unknown" but all calls go through ok and caller ID is fine too.

It's because of the number change you did, your phone/SIM thinks the old number still belongs to it. Won't generally cause problems, unless apps look up that number to use but in my experience, they'll usually ask you to confirm it.

Same here too. Transferred my old number from giffgaff to a new three sim 6 months ago and the three sim still shows the original three number and not my real number. I wouldn't worry about it.

With O2 when I first got my current number the phone said the right one. Now using a PAC code and moving around networks it always says either a different number or "Unknown". Doesn't really affect anything anyway.

Had the same thing on my iPhone (Switched to a new sim but kept old number), seemed to cure itself after a few months.

My nexus 5 did the same thing. Stuck the sim in my mates iphone and edited the number.
Can confirm this works as I put my sim into my dads iPhone 4 and edited it in there and boom in my Nexus it shows up as normal :)
