WRT54GL arrived with continental plug!

Please remember I am not arguing as a lawyer trying to sue the a*** off some company...I am merely a consumer trying to provide what's best for my family. Yes, legally I'm sure every t has been crossed...but morally I think these guys need to pick themselves up off the ground.

BTW: I was referring to .co.uk in more a symbolic sense than technical. (ie. it was part of a logo)

True, I could be seen as being a little cold-hearted but there is certainly some good to come out of this. Swallow the bitter pill, buy the adapter for £2 and you'll never make the same mistake again.

As a consumer myself, I agree it could be a little misleading but they do provide the exact model number. I actually have the EU version too - I just bought mine with an adapter - mine wasn't a mistaken buy though, it was £10 cheaper than the UK version at the time.

Mountain out of a Molehill anyone?

Buy a bloody adapter! Geez  .

Thank you sir for contributing your own shovel of dirt.

As I have said, I will be giving them a call tomorrow. If people want to post in the meantime that is up to them, and I feel it is only polite to reply.

What kind of plug is on it? Is it like a laptop transformer? with the wire into and out of the transformer, or is it like a phone charger kind of affair?

For the laptop affair just cut the plug off and bang a new one on.
For the phone charger kind either get the same rated power supply from local electronics store (OC's doesnt do them so i should be able to say the name but ill leave it)
If it is the phone charger sort i would send the thing back

I phoned them this morning and everything has worked out very nicely. They accepted that the way the product was marketed was extremely unclear, and have told me I need to buy a UK power adapter from wherever I can, then provide the proof of purchase and they will refund me the amount paid. Couldn't have asked for a better outcome. But now where do I find a UK power adapter for a WRT54GL

agreed, and do a little research before buying from places online.

a quick search would have told you that place always send european plugs and generally have a avg to poor reputation.

not a slap, just some advice :)

hey at least you bought a great router lol

I don't see why you'd want to cause yourself the hassle of sourcing another power supply when you can just use a plug adapter. However when you've bought a plug adapter, is it really worth the hassle of getting them to expense something costing less than £1? Sounds to me like you're causing yourself more hassle than it's really worth. All you need to do is go to a supermarket or wherever and buy a shaver adapter, it's the easiest solution and it saves you having to faff around for the sake of literally pennies.

I think it's just a 5V 1A supply so part numbers L49BR or L06BR should do the job. You'll have to guess where they're from.....

I think you read my post wrong. I am being refunded the cost of a new UK power lead, not a plug adapter. I am running the router through a shaver adapter at the moment and to be quite honest the sturdiness of the two-pin configuration is less than inspiring. It will move about in the socket and come clean out with a small nudge. However, this would match my previous experience with EU plugs. On top of that I can't fit anything else on a four-way extension cord with a big transformer sitting sideways on it. So it is not really a hassle; more a necessity. Not sure about everyone else, but I'd rather not have plugs falling out of sockets all over the place.

More to the point, I have been trying to source an adaptor from Linksys. But they don't seem to be set up for the fact that not everybody who calls them wants help with setting up their wireless network. Even the 'sales' number ends up somewhere in Asia on an answerphone asking me if I have ensured my router is switched on!

Anyway, as far as I'm concerned, the problem is as good as sorted now. Thanks to all for your help and criticisms. Yes I will definately be more careful now when buying from reputable websites who should know better.

I agree on the sturdiness of euro transformers in shaver adapters, it is a bit ropey. However you can get a decent plug adapter which basically turns a UK socket into effectively the schuko euro plug:

That'd be a lot sturdier and still a couple of quid max :)

Shaver adapters are not Euro converter plugs though. You aren't really supposed to use them as such as the pins are too thin on euro plugs. A proper Euro adapter will be a snug fit.
