WRT54GLv1.1 Losing internet every 4 days?

Hi guys

As above my router is on NTL cable and the cable connection is fine, but every 4 days or around that my net drops and I have to reset my router?

Is there a setting causing this to happen that I don't know about or can change?

Try using one of the alternate firmwares for your router.

Lots of people use DD-WRT with no problems, I use HyperWRT+thibor15c without any issues.

Current uptime for me on my WRT54GL is 32 days (since I moved house and got cable installed again basically).

Does anybody know if this is limited to certain models/versions of the WRT54G? We got one of these over the weekend and everything seems fine so far with our NTL 10meg line - not a glitch or a dropped connection to be had.

The sticker on the underside of ours says WRT54G v.7, if that means anything.

Lobotomised VXWorks version. Don't expect to be able to run any third party firmware, other than some reduced versions.

I'm a total noob when it comes to wireless - in what way is my router 'lobotomized'? For the timebeing at least, it serves its purpose in that it allows me to use the internet from anywhere in the house without the restriction of a cable, so what advantages would a firmware upgrade confer even if it was possible?
 
More tweakable although I don't use everything as I'm not 100% what a lot of it does :) pretty graphs showing usage etc

Some same more stable!

I find I get better signal around my house with 3rd party firmware

The VXWorks versions have less RAM (so you might find it's less stable if you open a lot of connections through it, say with bittorrent), and usually less flash space too (which is mainly why if you can get it to take a non-Linksys firmware, you're stuck with a reduced version).

The third party firmware adds all sorts of features (for starters, you can turn up the wireless transmit power) as well as quite frequently improving stability. www.linksysinfo.org has a whole load of information. Basically you can run anything you can run in Linux.

Ah well, never mind. I don't use Bittorrent and it'll only ever have to cope with mine and 'er indoors' laptops in terms of actual wireless 'connections' - just usual stuff like browsing, sending email or using Google Talk/Skype. My tower PC doesn't have a wireless card, so it's connected to the router via a cable.

The router is located upstairs and the signal strength is more than enough to allow use downstairs in the living room or dining room. That in itself has been a revelation - I'm kicking myself I hadn't bought one sooner.
