wtf 90% of pages I load don't load?

I have not bothered yet following your steps to get rid of this problem as I have had another problem, I tried surfing on my laptop as well using wifi and I cannot access some sites. This laptop doesn't have service pack 3. It's running windows xp + service pack 2, and was working great the other day until now. There doesn't seem to be a problem with my comp, it must be my router. Any ideas whats going on guys?

maybe your isp has blocked the sites you are trying to access.
maybe your parents have put some parental control programme on your pc to stop you getting up to no good.
do you spam a lot ? send ppl emails on how to get free ps3's ? maybe your isp has received a lot of complaints so are restricting your access

it just sounds like your DNS has mucked up.

*edit*

Sorry, I forgot to mention a fix!

Post some decent Crysis/1GB benchmarks, and that'll sort it out!

I can go on google fine, I can make searches on it fine, I have installed the new AVG v8 and now it scans every search result and shows a tick next to each site showing it's safe. Every result I have seen so far on google searches have a tick. I just did a another test I typed in 'Logitech g25 steering wheel' in google loads of search results come up on the first page and they all show the tick. When I click on some of them it takes me to the online store but some of them don't load the page title says 'Page Load Error' within the page it shows the following:

Network Timeout

The server at (site deleted not allowed to post here) is taking too long to respond.

The requested site did not respond to a connection request and the browser has stopped waiting for a reply.

* Could the server be experiencing high demand or a temporary outage? Try again later.
* Are you unable to browse other sites? Check the computer's network connection.
* Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing.
* Still having trouble? Consult your network administrator or Internet provider for assistance.

The above also happens, on youtube and yahoo.com and yahoo.co.uk but strange if I type in uk.yahoo.com it loads the pages but where the pictures go there are small blank rectangular boxes. Sometimes the uk.yahoo.com home page doesn't load, When I click on mail and type in my user name and password then it takes ages to load and when it does it's not complete. The text is jumbled instead of going nicely from left to right, you find things normally on the right underneath a bunch of text and big boxes and all text distorted all over the place.

You know that site I posted in another thread about the freebie gifts, well I signed up to it. I got a referral link and then started giving it out to my friends and family. They gave it to their friends and so on. I suddenly in the course of 2 days got a lot of sign ups to my site. Then I joined some forum that helps you on how to go about and find more referrals. Anyway they said you should email within 24 hours everyone that signed up to your referral link. You see when people sign up my account with the company that i registered with it shows the email addresses of all sign up members. So I emailed them saying thanks for the signing up and offered a lengthy help on what do, as some of the people that signed up didn't complete an offer and you need to if you want a free gift. So i offered help on how to complete an offer and refer some friends of their own. I sent out to all my sign ups which were about 20 of them.

I can't see my isp doing anything for sending just 20 emails to people who have already signed up to my referral link.

I did post out my referral link on some forums and websites, I thought it was allowed as the site had kept my referral link on for a while before they deleted so I just thought the site allowed free advertising. Maybe they told my isp but I can't see my isp that bothered about it. I wasn't spamming big time like in the hundreds to thousands of emails. I never sent out undisclosed email spam.

I checked my isp network blog and it's all working they report no problems.

I unplugged my rooter and left it for over an hour and then plugged it back in, nothing has helped except my internet speeds seem much faster now. still not as good as it should be for the price I am paying.

This PC does not have any parental controls on it

So what is happening, please give me an answer

Many thanks in advance

those sites don't have any spyware

I have run full complete scans and there are no viruses,

the only problems is accessing some sites, could it be my router settings. I checked them and there all the same as usual.

to rule out windows problems.

download a linux live cd, say linuxmint and see if firefox works in that (boot from the cd, it won't touch windows unless you tell it to 'install')

ah I wish I didn't have to go to such lengths as get linux on this PC.

I just tried the safari browser which I already had installed and that has all the same problems.

The fact that it didn't work on my laptop with xp+service pack 2 and this PC with xp+service pack 3 which I just updated seems that it's something wrong with just the internet.

I will try my apple mac that will definitely rule out if it's a windows issue.

One other thing. The other day before I installed service pack 3 I had removed my DVD writer from this PC and left the bay that i removed it from empty, I kept my dvd rom drive which is in the top bay on my PC. Then I did the service pack 3 update. Just thought I would let you know that.

Well if you guys know of anything else I can try

Also I would just like to say that's it's very kind of you to give me all this help, thank you very much I really appreciate it.

thanks for the replies

Try using tor:
https://www.torproject.org/
It should route all DNS requests through the proxy and not through the DNS setup windows uses, that way you don't have to use the linux live CD (which is really easy anyway).

I would prefer to not use tor just yet, is there any other ideas I can do?

I hoped there was some files I could delete from the computer that may be conflicting this.

Or how about I just do a system restore?

Or how about I just do a system restore?

if you do that then make sure you write down the settings which you run crysis at so that you can get it to work on your pc maxed out again otherwise you may forget and loose it forever. oh and backup that novel, would hate for that to be lost forever before i get a chance to read it :)

also why did you lie to use? you told us you needed to email people who bought something from your shop?

The easiest way to see if the problem is your router is to borrow a mate's laptop and try to get online through that.

Now, back to the point that Knives was making: your thread title is "90% of pages I load don't load?"

In order for you to load a page (therefore fulfilling the "I load" section), you must, of course, load a page. Therefore if 90% of the pages that you do load do not load, you are loading none of these pages; the thread title is contradictory.

Knives' point was a linguistically pedantic one: he wasn't asking what you meant, all he really wanted to do was to point out that you should have said "90% of the pages that I attempt to load don't load". Just thought I would point that out for you :)

Oh, and if you can't work that out then please never write a book ;)

That's exactly what I said in one of my previous posts that my wording for the title of the thread wasn't right.

I never lied, I never said that i needed to email people who bought anything from my shop. I just said I needed to email some friends and that was in my other thread talking about emails using Bcc. I sorted that out and that was something entirely different to what's going on this thread and was a day and a bit before any of this happened.
