Well after 12 months of playing css with fps at 20-30 tops, I unistalled McAfee security center because it was getting on my nerves and wham!

FPS went up to 80+

I always thought it was my system being to slow - 6600gt, amd 3200 1gm ram.

Just saved my self at least £500 quid in upgrade costs (for now)

Regards

A born again css player!

Wow, thats a pretty major jump  . I wonder if other virus scanners do the same? I have norton antivirus 2002 installed on my system and I usually disable the auto-protect service before playing a game, but the core program still remains running. I might uninstall it sometime to test if its slowing things down.

No self respecting Overclocker or Online gamer uses Norton Bloatware.
I kid you not mate it is the biggest pile of crap ever sold with an AV tag on it. Invasive overbearing full of holes, literally a pile of crap that i consider a Virus.
For an immediete free and Better alternative try Avast downloaded from here Free
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

I have used it All year without a single glitch or hit/problem it uses minimal resources and sits running lovely.

its really not as bad as that lol, but its still bad enough that theres no reason to use it if it were free, let alone something they charge you for.

Prevention is better than cure :p

How about you just install the Viruses on to your computer when your install windows, It will save you needing to install a program that will do nothing anyway :p

Uninstall it asap to be honest. Waste of time using that, such a system hog.

Is it really that bad? I'm using the 2002 version which I got way back with an old PC I bought. Its never caused me any hassle and it only loads up one process at startup thats around 6mb. Surely can't be that bad?!

I'm not sure about the lastest norton av products but I honestly can't fault NAV2002; its less bloated than avg, avast and nod32 that i've tried.

Than NOD32???

LOL there's nothing to NOD32 unlike NAV, way too much visual crap that just isn't needed. NOD small download, small app with the fastest scanning there is with seriosly minimal resources used.

Can't say that about NAV

I keep on telling my mate that the biggest boost in fps from his pc will come from removing that piece of **** norton but he insists it doesn't affect perfomance at all. Norton is a huge system hog no matter how many things you disable.

...only one thing left to do, remove it for him! before it's too late..

i dont use av or spyware scanners because they nail your performance

just use a router, xp's firewall and dont visit anything dodgy!!
