BMI is a load of rubbish.

Don't want to be at all mean but 18 stone is pretty heavy for a 5'9"er...

how would that be mean? :]
yes it is heavy, but im not (and i wasnt) clinically obese.

I will never be an 'ideal' weight for my height, i do not have a small or tbh medium frame.

my bf% is under 20, im just outside of the 'ok' range in those terms.

Hehe, ok, fair point :D
tbh, I think your right, from what I've heard on the news/read in the papers, the quaks are going to be able to use your BMI to denigh you LOADS of treatments (ie joint replacements, IVF (sorry dude, no babys for you!) etc), this may actualy have less to do with if they think it is a risk and more to do with meeting targets assigned to them by the government!

That's what is odd. I can understand the mentality behind it, about denying certain treatment to certain people, but using the BMI scale as justification is really off...

As already stated BMI is a load of cobblers.

As has been said many times before, every single one of the magnificent England Rugby World Cup 2003 winning team (I still play the tape of that game at least once a month as it cheers me up and makes me feel good :D ) are classified as obese according to BMI charts. Clearly, they were and are still world class athletes and probably some of the fittest and toughest men on the planet.

The simple fact is BMI takes no account of muscle mass and body type. I am very stocky and muscular and my BMI puts me in the obese category yet I can see my abdominal muscles and am very well defined. I train 2 hours in karate twice a week and at least 1.5 hours in the gym on the other three days a week btw.

Like others have said, I dont take any notice of this BMI.

According to Bbc health
My BMI is 26.82 but im certainly not fat......Ok so maybe I have had a few too many pints this week :p

Sam you must have heavy bones to be 12stone9 and still have a 32inch waist especially from your description of yourself being skinny.

I think that it is because I have a really low fat %, so virtually all of my [little] bulk is muscle which is denser than fat. I also have really skinny chicken legs, hence the small waist. :D

13 stone is a tad bit overwweight for someone of your height tbh.
I'm the same height and only weigh 10.5, so we really need to see pics, Unless you have an extra 2.5 stone of pure muscle i wouldn't classify you as skinny.

At the centre of the universe lies the event horizon of my super heavy heart.
