WTF is going on with vista

Updating Bios = Changing Motherboard as far as Vista is concerned.

If that was the case it would be forcing everyone to reactivate on a bios flash... which it isn't.

Which motherboards are people who have been asked to reactivate upon a bios's flash using out of interest, maybe there's a connection between particular manufacturer's and this happening?

I'm using a Gigabyte DS4 here and have flashed the bios 3 or 4 times since first installing Vista and I've yet to be asked to reactivate. (OEM x64)

I thought each component like motherboard has their own ID?

So we have to re-activate Vista for every each hardware change? eg upgrading graphic card? Even 'testing' a ram for your friend?

I don't think that even happened with XP.

Well, make sure you don't install certain games either. That will invalidate Vista. Oh, and sleeping facing south also makes your Vista invalidate. I have heard rumours that having moss growing anywhere on your porch can do the same.

Of course, having a user name as Nvidia and trying to run vista is just asking for trouble. :p
Thanks for your helpfull contribution, would have hated to have you miss a Vista thread and an opportunity to insert what you undoubtedly think is a witty comment.

For someone who happily professes to dislike MS and Vista (at every possible opportunity) you seem to spend an inordinate amount of time stalking every Vista thread you can find. Obsessive? Could be...

Did Bill G spurn you for a date or summat at some point in the past? I'm just waiting to hear press reports his pet bunny has been boiled. :D

Guys,

I think the issue is the fact when you update your bios, it puts a lot of settings back to defaults.

This could i say COULD cause it, spesh if you had for example.

On board audio disabled.
Serial/Paralelle (spelling) ports disabled
USB ports disabled.

When flashing and reverting back to bios defaults these would be enabled.

Vista at a guess would notice these changes an say ang on a second this is all new kit.

Thats my 2p woth lol
Sounds plausable to me, in any case there shouldn't be a problem. If it's thrown Vista a wobbly enough it won't activate online just give them a call and it'll be re activated for you with not problem. Unless you flash your BIOS and change massive amounts of hardware on a daily basis it's unlikely to be an ongoing problem for you.

I may have smiled a little.... ;) I'm just a bit concerned for Void that lately it's every... single... Vista... thread... It can't be healthy to be that obsessed... Scary? Yes! Healthy? Hmmmm... :D

Phoning them is no hassle at all.
Unless you don't have a phone with you.

Or if perhaps you didn't want to waste your time getting permission to use the operating system you've paid for.
