I was just watching Boomerang, and there was an ad for some website. It was advertising their range for Christmas shopping
The worst part was the way they worded it, it seemed as if people would have to hurry to get their christmas shopping done.

I know there's usually threads on here about this sort of stuff, but never this early surely. It's still July

I hate the huge build up to Christmas now, especially as it ends so quickly.

Yes. I think it's fair enough if you're a Christian because then it's a day of profound meaning and an important celebration.
But for everyone else, it's just a nice holiday to enjoy and get a few presents while you're at it. Not to be blown out of proportion

I saw one of the shopping channels on sky had a show the other day "Christmas gift ideas". They even had christmas decorations up in the studio

The earlier the start, the better. There is not a better time of year than Christmas.

The thing is Christmas is a expensive time. People need to save and find out what is the latest thing there kid wants etc. And to have enough money and have everything planned you need to start early.

Christmas shopping should be done of Christmas eve and Christmas eve only.

Gosh, no. Imagine the stampede. It would be like Glastonbury, but in every town. Queueing to buy your Glastonbury ticket, with no guarantee of getting a ticket. Analogy = queueing to get into town, but with no guarantee that you'll get a parking space, or if you use the bus, there is no guarantee that there will be any spaces left on the bus. Then there's queueing to get into the shops. Then once you're inside, there is as risk of the shop being empty on stock because everyone decided to shop on the 24th.

Sure, July and August is overkill. I'd say October half term is the ideal time. Hallowe'en and Guy Fawkes are just a week away, and once they're over, you can start thinking about Christmas.
