wtf moment at the doc's this mornin

haha :D

Now I'm sorry I redacted with 'xxx' :p

If it makes any difference please read xxx as thyroid (about as boring as diabetes and similarly as annoying).

Please continue with in-your-endo :D

you're a strange fellow!
you object to a nurse commenting about a thyroid problem you have - not exactly very exciting, but happily tell everyone on the internet?

you mentioned you had your achilles tendon treated? did you know problems with the achilles tendon can be linked to a low thyroid?
not gonna turn this into a medical thread but in the past hypothyroidism was diagnosed by testing the achilles tendon!

People also seem to forget that Doctors and Nurses whilst caring for you/us are quite detached from it all and the things we suffer from a just things that interest them. We are (rightly so) just "things that need fixing" to them, Its like when a joiner asks who fitted your kitchen.

You should never be offended when they review your records as (pointed out above) many things are all interlinked.

It's to decide when you can get an appointment. If you have an illness that might require a prescription you will get an earlier appointment since it goes down as an emergency.
Was going to say you sound like a right PITA. The Doctors are seeing lots of patients each say so if they are forewarned about what the person is coming in for they can modify their schedule, check records, look things up, request info from other places etc. :p

Talking to people can be good sometimes :p

Nurse: Oh, so you have a Thyroid problem?
Amleto: *raises eyebrow*
Amleto: Yeah
Amleto: *shuffles out feeling violated*

Nurse: Oh, so you have a Thyroid problem?
Amleto: *raises eyebrow*
Amleto: Yeah, does it have something to do with my Achilles?
Nurse: Thyroid problems often come with joint/muscle/tendon pain. In the past hypothyroidism was diagnosed by testing the Achilles tendon.
Amleto: I never knew that.
Amleto: *leaves feeling happy at a greater understanding of his conditions*

/edit: these details taken from other posters. I have no idea about their veracity

This tbh, they probably know someone personally with the same problem, so can relate to it.

Whatever your issue is, you shouldn't let it bother you. If it's hurting you psychologically, just remember, there's always some in a way worse situation. No point in moaning about it or dwelling on it. Just get on with life.

^I say this as someone who's had their fair share of issues in the past.

Then her observation was excellent as thyroid problems often come with joint/muscle/tendon pain.

I don't care that she observed it, but why say what she did with no context?

Additionally I don't have a 'problem' now (ie I don't have any symptoms), or for years, since I have been on meds (with no side effects).

I don't care that people know, I thought it was inappropriate to bring it up as small talk. See above for why *my* achilles strain has nothing to do with my thyroid.

If she had a reason for the comment she would have followed up after 'yeah', surely?

I'm not distressed by it, I just can't fathom the thought process that would lead to her bringing it up in the fashion that she did. Her tone and manner was like one engaging in small talk leading to a bizarre juxtaposition of small talk and personal ailments between strangers.

I cannot see how it fits in to appropriate social or professional behaviour.
