Had a hdd failure and had to reinstall, when i loaded Boinc & seti on noticed it was doing Enhanced WU's, no probs i thought more credit.

Well after 6 hours of crunching it finished then decided to have a look what they are worth only to find i got 30 cobblies for each one.
Now my machine would do 4 every 6 hours and its on for 18 hours a day so that would mean my RAC for this machine would go from 870+ down to 360. Needless to say I wont be allowing them again!!!!

Come on berkley if ya want us to do em make em worth more got to be at least 100 to make it worth doing them.

One of the major changes with Enchanced has been credit is now given based on how many Flops is takes to crunch through the unit, making optimized versions of the boinc client is pretty much redundant as the benchmarks are no longer used.

I'm still crunching Beta project units and they claim about 110 points each, the caveat to this is that the beta version of 5.12 for windows im running claims too much credit and it should be about 50 - 60 per unit.

On the corrected figures i should get ~320 per CPU per 24hrs, so your figures do sound a little off, but then i dont know if they again changed the ratio of flops/credit before releasing it to the main project.

if you look on the work tab on boinc it will say what version of seti it is using, if it says seti_enhanced 5.something your on the new ones.
all i did was to install the optimised boinc & seti clients, got a load of messages saying no client installed and it went on to DL & start crunching the normal ones.
just had a look again at the results and all about 30 per unit for 20,000+ seconds worth, and thats on a dual Xeon cruncher.

how can I see how much credit I'm getting for them?

I have completed a few units for version 5.12 and I can't find them in my results lists on the web site?

edit:

I've found one: http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=76438914 there is one guy who is a bit miffed about those results mind you

Wow 9 1/2 hours crunching for 31.97 cobblys, i want some more of them NOT

I'm getting random errors appearing over the desktops since the clients have started downloading enhanced wu's.

EeeeK.

I've have my senior techie saying "maybe we should only run boinc after school" And to be truthfull, if pc's start having error messages appearing on them, then I'd agree.

I don't want people to try and associate ANY potential problem to something like boinc. It maybe that most of you won't get any problems, I have one dual core pc here that has failed units on it, since it downloaded enhanced.

I can't go round and see each pc to see whats going on. So I'll make an excetutive decision at the end of the week. I may have to just change the working times to, 17:00 - 08:00. That at least would also tie in to when they are allowed to access the internet for updates.

Oh well, lets hope this is the only hurdle I have to face, I'd hate to have to remove it from just nearly 400 machines....

I got enhanced WUs when i reinstalled boinc on monday. Since then i have had a couple of errors, rather annoying. Theyre taking 6 hours instead of 50mins (x2 4400) and the standard ones are being shown as going to take 3 hours :( . Luckily at the moment my dual xoen machine is still happily crunching standard ones.

EDIT: Just had another look and the times seem to be all over the place, some taking 6 hours , some taking 2:30 and a couple in between. I dont know what scores Ill get yet as they avent been uploaded. Be interested to see.

Bulldog66. While they're still giving out a mix of standard and enhanced WUs, you may want to look at putting a custom app_info.xml on each PC (if you have the facilities to roll that out). I'm not sure what needs to be in it right now, but I'm sure there's a way to find out.

You'll find the clients keep getting 'no work sent' messages if you do this, but provided you have a decent cache length, it *should* keep work around.

Also, for anyone running BOINC versions older than 5.2.6, you should upgrade ASAP, as older versions don't understand the way Enhanced claims credit.

I'm fairly sure that 5.2.13 is later than 5.2.6 anyway???? I hope so anyway as that's what I'm running here

5.2.13 is later that 5.2.6 so no problems,

and to H2ocooler, me thinks the rac is going to take a bashing.
