Hey chaps,

I have a Sandybridge rig, based on an ASUS P8 p67 PRO, with a SSD as a primary HD with Windows 7 on it and a large HDD for storage.

Now, Windows 7 has been being a gimp recently; random crashes, random boot failures blah blah so I was thinking a reinstall is on the cards.

However, before I managed to do that I have a complete boot failure on the OS. Not a problem you say, I have a Win7 recovery CD - simply repair the boot, or even reinstall Win7!

Wrong! First the BIOS recognised the CD drive, but the Win 7 recovery never booted properly... now the CD drive doesn't even register as a boot option! In the BIOS setup there is no CD drive :( It wont boot to Win7 recovery, Win7 install or WinXP install discs....

The CD rom shouldn't be buggered because it's less than 6mths old and worked fine before! Also, I tried unplugging the HDD to see if there were power drain issues... no change.

About to try a different CD drive, possibly an old HDD too and also resetting the BIOS from the mobo...

Any other ideas that I may be missing? I am usually able to sort most issues but this is a mare!

Thanks :)

Not to mention that the PCI Latency from this mobo is absolutely terrible! I use it for Audio producition too, and I cannot use my firewire audio interface unless I disable the PCIE graphics card and wifi card or else the PCI Latency spikes are out of control!

grrr... damn you ASUS!

More in the saga.... managed to get it booting from CD by clearing the BIOS then flashing to the latest .rom from ASUS... at least a start! :/
