WWE legend Chris Benoit, the greatest worker of his generation, has died at the age of 40. In circumstances still currently unknown, the Canadian superstar's family were also found dead.

The tragedy follows the early deaths of Chris's best pal Eddie Guerrero, Owen Hart, British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith, Sensational Sherri and many other wrestling stars.

A statement on WWE.com said: "World Wrestling Entertainment is deeply saddened to report that Chris Benoit and his family were found dead in their home.

"There are no further details at this time, other than the Benoit family residence is currently being investigated by local authorities.

"WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family’s relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy."

Chris will always have a place in the heart of wrestling fans worldwide thanks to his classic nmatches in Japan, ECW, WCW, and especially the WWE.

His hug with Eddie at WrestleMania XX was one of wrestling's most memorable moments - and will now never, ever be forgotten.

MORE news on Chris's death and a full tribute to follow.

hmm I can think of more ultimate warrior, Owen Hart, British Bulldog (Davey Boy Smith), Eddie Guerrero, "Ravishing" Rick Rude (retired in 1994 though), Gorilla Monsoon, crash holly, mr perfect, andre the giant,

(Warrior (James Hellwig) isnt dead?, Rude was still wrestling in WCW in 1997ish)

News conference on now, It's been confirmed that benoit strangled both his wife and son, his wife was bound by the hands and feet. A bible was also found near her body. The son was found in his bedroom. the wife died on friday apparantly and the son on saturday and benoit shortly afterwards. He then hung himself with the pulley on the weight bench. Very Bizarre

meet the guy in a Gym in Aberdeen about 4 years ago , out of all the wrestlers that were there he was the friendliest and took time out to sign a autograph for my GF Nephews.

RIP Chris Beniot

World Wrestling Entertainment will not distribute their three hour Chris Benoit tribute show that aired last night on the USA Network to their international affiliates for airing.

The Score in Canada will also not air the program in its regularly scheduled RAW replay slots.

While updating their coverage of the Benoit family tragedy, the Atlanta-Journal Constitution has posted a report that Nancy Benoit filed for divorce and an order of protection from Chris Benoit in May 2003. Nancy Benoit alleged in the divorce petition that Chris, "lost his temper and threatened to strike the petitioner and cause extensive damage to the home and personal belongings of the parties, including furniture and furnishings. Petitioner is in reasonable fear for petitioner's own safety and that of the minor child." This prompted the judge to issue a restraining order on Chris Benoit from entering their family home. In August 2003, his wife Nancy requested that the petition be dismissed. The couple later reconciled and celebrated Benoit’s WWE World Heavyweight Championship win at WrestleMania 20 in the ring together.

In addition to the Shopzone merchandise, WWE has pulled their profile page on Chris Benoit from the company's website, not to mention that the front page isn't a Benoit tribute anymore as well. Pretty much all that is being showcased on the website regarding Chris Benoit is on the grim details of the Benoit family tragedy.

Last night they posted a bunch photos and videos of him, and made his section into kind of a tribute section. They also posted videos of the wrestlers giving their testimonials on Benoit, but those were quickly pulled after the grim details surrounding the Benoit family deaths surfaced. They also pulled the front page graphic of him from the Raw and ECW sections. The story of last night's Raw show still remains in the results section though.

TNA's website has removed their Chris Benoit death mention.

Too bad so sad.............

Anyone who could do that and then be so gutless to kill himself deserves no sympathy whatsoever, his corpse should be thrown in the ocean for shark meat while people have a champange breakfast on the deck to watch the show

Another nutcase bites the dust :)

Nice piece of generalisation when the full facts haven't been disclosed...

bravo ******

jeez, what an emotional ride that 30 minutes was. Had no clue this had happened. Was genuinely sad half an hour ago about his passing and carried on reading... needless to say its passed (if all reports are true)

R.I.P the benoit family

Bounding up your wife and child and slaying them is pretty bad don't you know?

Sorry, that last line wasn't directed at Benoit.

What I meant in the first line was that despite the results of the press conference then the entire story behind the incident hasn't been completely revealed. Depression or mental disorder can cause people to do things they otherwise wouldn't do, Benoit might have thought he was doing the right thing (if indeed he did do this). Without prior knowledge of his actual mental state then there's no way of knowing.

Mate, he has a point anyone who kills his wife and then 7 year old son shortly after, it's just insane. I've lost all respect I had for the man the whole case has been an emotional train ride coming to a nasty end :(

Sad fact is I doubt we ever find out the full details, at least if he had left a note there would be some insight

I just can't understand what would drive him to kill his wife and son then commit suicide.

I can only speculate that Eddie's death sent him downhill from then onwards.

Kinda reminds me of the Amityville story for some reason.

But the steroids made him do it. :( And I know he's a good guy because I saw him on the TV once.

Yea he was a good "performer" no body knew much about his outside life, guess you don't know with these things, I feel deeply sorry for his wife and kid such a waste of a life, and benoit who was at his peak what a waste.
