WWI Centenary, 11th November 2018

There’s a documentary starting at 7:35pm on PBS America (Sky 174) tonight about the Last Day of WW1. Very good documentary from Michael Palin. There were soldiers killed after 11am and this tells their situation.

It's not really the same.

Those soldiers invaded their neighbours, often following bombing campaigns- Rotterdam, for example.

The German army carried out numerous atrocities against civilians as part of the occupations. From Greece, to France, Yugoslavia and particularly in the Soviet Union.

German soldiers in the Soviet Union could not be unaware of what was going on. They burned hundreds of villages in Belarus alone.

Yes, and they did that because they were at war with them in order to deny resources and territory to their enemy. Psychology is also an important aspect of warfare.
The Russians were also incredibly brutal.

You need to understand the situation in Germany after 1918 and then you will understand why the average German soldier did what they did.

They did it as they viewed slavs as sub-human.They killed around 10 million Soviet civilians. And that is a conservative estimate.

Compare to their policy in France and Denmark.
