Hey guys

Thought I would give the Xcom games a play again.

Has anyone ever got near completion of these games?

Beat the first about 3 years ago, having started it many times and never completing due to getting bored. Started TFTD shortly after but lost my save about halfway through...was not happy and I've never bothered starting one again since.

They are really good games, but to be honest become very repetitive and go on for longer than they should imo.

I'd recommend running UFO: The Two Sides. It is to X-Com what O:TTD is to Transport Tycoon. It allows the game to be played at modern resolutions with enhanced sprites and has improved the AI considerably. Additionally you can now play multplayer and also an Alien Campaign!

[Edit] And yeah, beat UFO several times though I always end up getting bored of TFTD's *******-hardness at the end.

I finished the original back in the day on the Amiga, swapping floppies for victory !
Somehow I don't have the patience or determination, when my team get annihilated walking out of the skyranger ><
Still good fun occasionally though :)

that's why u send the tanks out first....... or chuck some smoke grens :)

Beat the original quite a few times. There is a lot of info in this forum about it ;)

I would recommend getting the Playstation version if you can as the remixed music is some of the best, um, in the world :)

Finished apocalypse once, i think it was medium difficulty and wasnt all that easy. One day i want to finish it on superhuman but damn, it gets tough.

Finished the original for the first time this year

Sometimes the aliens are so brutal you could cry

I hate Terror Missions

Finished the first on Amiga and PC. couple of tanks for wide sweep and a goup of squaddies to concnetrate firepower. Off course leaving a launcher (or what ever they're called) in the intercepter for those kills where you run out of time units.

Second was way too hard and had unfortunately to give up after a while.

I never had a good enough PC to get through the third but what I did play you really need a guide to learn the technical points otherwise it is really tough. ie how to down UFOs without looing loads of cash and how not to antagonise all the locals.
