Reading through the paper I happened upon an article on the X factor winners single having already being recorded. As I have never watched the show and have even less interest in who wins it I would normally pass any such articles by.

But it occurred to me that surely this tripe is still on-going so how can a winners song be recorded already? But that aside I also note that both potential winners have recorded other peoples songs I assume to cash in on the Christmas market.

Is this a prerequisite for these people that their claim to fame is that they can sing someone else's songs well. Do these people not have their own songs or is this not required today?

Enlighten me to the thinking behind this if you please.

I know they always pre-record the finalists winning songs so they can release them straight away, I guess they wouldn't get number one if it wasn't a song people knew!

Although I think a song did get to no.1 on iTunes where the original wasn't released by Mark ronson?

It's the same every year, the three finalists record the winning song and then you get to hear the versions of the final two.
As soon as the winner is announced the manufacturing process is well on the way.

People still watch TV ??

There is:

Blueray / DVD
Internet forums of all kinds
Online and offline Gaming
Youtube with endless types of content and music
Music & Radio streaming services
Netflix
Twitch
Video chats via skype and others
Amazon prime streaming

There is content creation tools of all kinds too

TV has very little to offer even if it moved to online, its a format for the elderly of 20 years ago. Its had its day.

Then of course there is the outside world..

It was a major breaking news item on Sky this morning that X factor fans had gone into shock.

All it was was the black spice girl was in hospital "because of sheer exhaustion after a lot of media pressure"

So the nation goes into meltdown because a judge on a fixed and predictable show for chavs can't stand the pressure.

It's absolutely fixed. I have seen on several betting sites, people with inside information on guaranteed losers on a sunday. Several times, they have been people you weren't expecting so it's not lucky guessing imo.

I hate it when people make good plans and then deliver on them in a way that is satisfactory for most of the stupid part of our population.

I don't mind being called stupid or chav for watching such stuff.
I've been performing semi-professionally for 44 years and I don't care where talent comes from or how it is produced.
Good luck to them.

Don't watch it, won't listen to them but if it gives enjoyment to others then I'll be happy for them.

Am I missing something ? They pre record everyone so the winner can be released to maximise sales?
Its not like there will be an unknown last minute surprise entry

Technically they could pre record the winner at boot camp phase as they are there

I Must have missed the point

What don't you get?

They either win or lose and release and album

Leona Lewis is a prime example of how the Xfactor model can work well...Olly Murs is another example...

I myself can't stand Olly Murs or Xfactor but I'll watch it with the kids as light entertainment.

Elvis Presley - There I said it.

Frank Sinatra - I'm on a roll and I could go on all night.

Go back in history and you'll see that artists never usually wrote their own tunes, there were Songwriters and there were Singers.
Read up on Tin Pan Alley.

The Beatles covered Twist and Shout and probably others. I'm pretty sure The Beach Boys released covers.

Glen Campbell didn't write Wichita Lineman and that's one of the best songs ever.

I only found out about two weeks ago that one of my all time favourite tracks by Black Sabbath called Evil Woman from the 1st album was a cover.
Oh and did my one of my favourite bands Led Zeppelin actually write any originals or did they plagiarise off everybody else?

And we've had umpteen threads about some covers being better than the originals. Sometimes that can go as far as the original being downright terrible. Hello, Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah.

Anyway...

Some people are better at singing than writing songs and vice versa. That's what this boils down to, really.
