Ive got a few problems with the X-Fi audio card i bought the other day. 1) ive got a crackiling sound coming from my speakers when playing music 2) when i plug my headset in the mic dont work and i cant hear people talking in ventrilo but i can hear other stuff.

Help??

Another common fault with this card (crackling) Do you have a Nforce chipset by any chance? Look on the Creative forums, there's a huge thread about this. There is no fix, afaik :(

Have you got the latest chipset drivers? Soundcard drivers? Tried moving soundcard to different PCI slot?

i have an Nforce4 Sli chipset and have the latest drivers. and the card is in the only pci slot i have left. What about this problem that i acnt hear in ventrilo with my headset yet when i use my speakers i can hear people talking ??

For fault finding purposes, try removing the other PCI stuff and then trying the X-Fi in another slot (preferably furthest away from the CPU). See if it then fixes the problem. :)

I run an nForce4 chipset (DFI lanprarty SLI-D mobo) and have no troubles.

The problem with the headset may be that it's perhaps auto muting something? Have you checked that everything is still set the same as when the speakers are in?

Cheers.

the card is in the only pci slot avliable which is the one right at the bottom of my mobo, i have another pci slot further up but one of my 6800's covers that slot up :(

Are there any drivers to fix the problem and if not then y havnt nVidia or Creative done anything about it for example a new bios update

I don't really know if you can do anything apart from,

1. Install latest X-Fi Drivers
2. Update mobo BIOS
3. Install latest Chipset Drivers
4. Disable un-needed options in BIOS
5. Perhaps alter the latency with "PCI Latency Tool" (available from www.guru3d.com I believe)

What OS are you running?

My X-FI Xtreme Music is fine in XP but shows similar symptoms to the OP (crackling etc..) under Vista.
